  1. How would you spell Lyla/Lila/Lilah?
  2. Would there be too many 'L's in Lyla Elizabeth? (Or any of the other spellings?)
  3. Ironically, I DETEST the names Lola and Leila/Layla ... Does Lyla (or again any of the other spellings) instantly make you think of Lola/Leila/Layla

Thank you Grin

  1. Lila
  2. Yes
  3. No

  1. If I wanted it pronounced Lie-la I would spell It Lyla. If I wanted it pronounce Lee-la I would spell it Lila.

  2. I think Lyla/Lila Elizabeth is lovely. Not too many ls

  3. No, I see Lyla/Lila as different names to Layla/Lola

  4. I would assume a 'Lil' was a Lily but yes, I think you could use it.

fairyfeatures · 08/10/2015 10:58

Hmm that's a good point manic - pronounciation would be Lie-la.
I think 'lil' would just be a personal cutesy nickname for me to use rather than others.. so not too sure if this question is even relevant.

Thank you for your opinions :)

Lie-la is Lila to me, as I know one. I am not a fan of alternative y-spellings, so I would stick with Lila. Lilah looks like a shortening of Delilah to me.

Lila Elizabeth is fine, imo.

No, it doesn't make me think of Layla (how funny, I prefer that spelling, so maybe I'm not as anti y- spellings as I thought!) or Lola.

If the nickname is personal family use only, then you can use whatever you like. One of mine was known as Poppy for years, which bears no resemblance at all to her name

  1. All valid spellings, IMO. Lilah to me is an abbreviation of Delilah as PP said, so as a standalone name, I'd go with Lila or Lyla.
  2. No - that works well.
  3. No.
  4. Yep.
WishIWasWonderwoman · 08/10/2015 11:53
  1. Lila (for the pronunciation Lie-la).
  2. No, that's a nice combination for first name middle name. But if you want Lila Elizabeth all as one unhyphenated first name, it's a bit
    too much in my opinion.
  3. No
  4. Yes
MrsLeighHalfpenny · 08/10/2015 11:59
  1. Lila
  2. Yes
  3. No
  4. No (Lilo Lil springs to mind).

Though I don't like any form of Lila/Lyla/Leila/Lola/... But I LOVE Elizabeth.

fairyfeatures · 08/10/2015 12:46

So Lila is the most popular then. Honestly it would have been my least favourite of the 3 but you are all swaying me.

I hadn't made the Delilah connection but not off putting to me.

It would definitely be a first name and middle name.

Thank you, I love Elizabeth too :)

Oh my word this is my daughter's name. We spell it Lyla, i prefer the shape of the y to the i in the middle of the name when writing it by hand. We call her Ly sometimes for short but normally she gets called Lyla Liz Grin

Excellent name choices OP

Pandora97 · 08/10/2015 17:19

I'd spell it Lila. The h at end end is unnecessary and I don't like it spelt Lyla. Just looks 'wrong' to me. Probably because I was brought up reading the Sweet Valley High Books and that's how one of the characters spelt it. Blush And Lyla makes me think of that Oasis song.

I think Elizabeth is fine as a middle name.

No it doesn't automatically make me think of Lola or Layla and I think Lil could be used as a nickname.
