Can't decide, which do you prefer?

But by the time a baby born now gets to Uni they'll know loads of Noahs too. There's loads of preschool age ones now.

They're both lovely but both very popular. There's a fair chance your ds would be known as jack a or jack b or noah x or noah y to differentiate between classmates. (I've had to put up with that at school and work and It's a pita).

MrsTwee - Noah is a gender free name, there is both a male and female character in the Bible called Noah, but they are different characters.

Noah of the ark fame was male, it is mentioned that he has a wife, who although is not named in the Bible is named as Naamah in other Jewish texts. He is the son of Lamech.

The female Noah is mentioned briefly (OT), as the daughter of Zelophehad.

One gender free name. Two characters.

However to be honest, in today's modern English speaking world, Noah is seen as being predominately male.

To the OP - I love both names, but as others have said, they're both extremely popular.

Just a suggestion, but what about the name Joah, which you could say combines the two? Joah is a legitimate name, it's Biblical (from the Hebrew name Yoach), and means 'God is his brother'. Said just like Noah but with a J instead.

never heard of a female Noah!

SmugairleRoin · 28/09/2015 09:07

My German exchange partner (from way back when in school) is trying for a baby and is seriously considering calling her Noa if she has a girl. Apparently it's not unusual over there.

Noah Cyrus (Miley's sister)

We;ll, you learn something every day.

but you would get a lot of confusion :)

In 2013, Noa topped the 'baby name charts' for girls in Israel, and that was the 15th year in a row that it had topped the chart.

A Jewish woman/girl named Noa wouldn't surprise me (and as I'm Jewish, I know several), however I admit in others cases, a female Noah does surprise me.

where does Noa/h come in the UK?

CordeliaFrost · 28/09/2015 10:53

In 2014...

In England & Wales, Noah was ranked #11 for boys (used 4,085 times). Noa was used 26 times for boys and 55 times for girls.

In Scotland, Noah was ranked #7 for boys (used 321 times). Noa was used 4 times for girls.

In Northern Ireland, Noah was ranked #6 for boys (used 190 times). NI doesn't provide any information outside the Top 100, so alas, can't see if there were any girls given the name.

WanderingTrolley1 · 28/09/2015 10:57

Jack. Noah grates on me.

Minimaus · 28/09/2015 13:38

Both are very very widely used already. Are there really no other names you love? Names that can identify your son a little better, especially if you have a common surname.

But if I had to choose, I'd say Jack because Noah/Noa sounds and looks feminine to my ears/eyes, perhaps because it ends in the 'a' sound.

Vajazzler · 28/09/2015 13:52

Out of the 2 I'd go for Noah. I have a Noah myself so probably biased. It's not a 'now' name at all, it's in the bible!

Moodyblue1 · 28/09/2015 15:11

I really like Jack, it's more of a classic name. I think Noah will date easier.

BikeRunSki · 28/09/2015 22:03

Jonah?

Hopesicles · 03/11/2015 00:16

Noah! :) x
