DSD is thinking of using Dawn for her DD when born. What do you think? If you don't like it what first name would go with Dawn as a middle name. Surname is 2 syllables.

I think it's beautiful. I'd be tempted to use something from nature such as Dawn Rowan or Dawn Willow.

Gorgeous name.

myotherusernameisbetter · 24/09/2015 16:23

I don't like it simply because it doesn't sound nice in my accent - I find it difficult to say and it comes out the same as Don - therefore it doesn't sound pretty or even a girls name :(

Using it as a middle name:

Susannah Dawn
Jessica Dawn
Vivienne Dawn
Megan Dawn
Gabrielle Dawn

SmugairleRoin · 24/09/2015 17:57

I don't like it tbh, there's something about the sound that feels a bit wet to me or like a butter substitute. Nothing really wrong with it though!

With Dawn as a middle name I think a longer first name suits.
Evelyn, Rosalie, Christina, Imogen, Matilda, Rhiannon, Florence, Julianne, Liana, Heather, Rebecca, Amelia etc.

rainbowcow · 24/09/2015 19:13

I love it! I know one and she is pleased with her name. No one gets it wrong and is a strong, nature name. Go for it

HippyChickMama · 24/09/2015 19:15

I'm not a fan, I quite like Aurora though which means dawn.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2015 19:16

Don't like it at all.

Savannah.
Amelia
Sienna
Willow
Isabella
Helena

Long long ago I knew two sisters named Dawn and Eve. Old ladies then, so no longer around.

thehypocritesoaf · 24/09/2015 19:21

Pretty name but the crack of dawn puts me off (sorry)

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 24/09/2015 19:22

It's a pretty name but SO 70's.

PotatoGun · 24/09/2015 19:22

It's a very late 70s/80s name to me. There seemed to be dozens of them in both my younger sisters' classes (born 1974 and '78). I'd class it mentally with Linda, Karen, Michelle and the like.

binbagbabe · 24/09/2015 20:58

Im not keen myself tbh. Megan Dawn and Helena Dawn sound good from your suggestions. Will try and nudge DSD in that direction.

I used to know a Dawn Slaughter. Shock Now I can't think of the name without the connotations!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/09/2015 21:03

I like it a lot, and agree that it would make a lovely mn. I'd want a longer, 'fussier' middle name to go with it, if using it for a first name.

Dawn Isabella
Dawn Georgiana
Dawn Ariadne
Dawn Luciana
Dawn Lenora
Dawn Eleanora
dawn Emmeline

CremeEggThief · 24/09/2015 21:03

Helena Dawn does sound lovely. I think it's better as a middle name now.

waxweasel · 25/09/2015 08:32

It sounds a bit fat and frumpy to me. Not just because it's dated, but it's the fact it's quite short and thuddy as a sound. Agree with others suggesting a longer name with Dawn as a MN.

There was a Dawn at my DD's nursery and I was really Hmm when I heard it. It never grew on me, and wouldnt really say it suited her in my mind.

FanSpamTastic · 25/09/2015 08:39

Dawn is the name of the best selling brand of washing up liquid in the USA.

Darcourse · 25/09/2015 08:42

And if/when she has a boyfriend people will joke 'John gets up at the crack of Dawn...'

squoosh · 25/09/2015 10:47

It's a bit 70s. Like Gail.

A friend of mine was going to dawn until her grandfather told her mum that in the army they used say that the men were so deprived of female company that they'd fuck the crack of dawn. I've never thought of the name in the same light since. Shame, coz it's actually quite nice.

Junosmum · 25/09/2015 11:24

Going to be called

temporarilyjerry · 26/09/2015 08:01

Please don't. Her baby, her choice.

musicinspring1 · 26/09/2015 08:04

I was going to suggest Aurora too. I nearly went for that with Rory as a nn (am a Gilmore girls fan if that means anything to anyone!) But then dd got a Rory boy in her class and it put me off. Dawn doesn't seem as 'pretty' as Aurora in that it's a bit harsher sounding. Nice enough though but I'd prefer it as a middle name.

myotherusernameisbetter · 26/09/2015 08:33

Aurora sounds like a dog chewing a toffee.

MissBattleaxe · 26/09/2015 08:40

Aurora sounds like a dog chewing a toffee. Ha! Ha! I can't stop laughing at that!
