Our second baby is due in just a few weeks time and, whilst we've settled on a boy's name, we're struggling to decide on a girl's one. Our first child is called Evelyn Rose (known as Evie mostly) and we have a one syllable surname.

Which do you prefer of:
Nell Alexandra
Eleanor Grace (known as Nell)
Esme Grace

Or any of the first names above with a different middle name?

We've got stuck so any help much appreciated!

I like Eleanor Grace best :)

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 20/09/2015 07:40

How about Eleanor Alexandra, known as Nell? I think Evie & Esme are a bit too similar.

AuntieStella · 20/09/2015 07:41

As you have a one-syllable surname, I'd avoid a one syllable name in case it just sounds too abrupt, or the nn is a lengthening (Nell becoming Nelly).

I think Alexandra is a lovely name, but of the choices as written I'd go for Eleanor Grace.

Mehitabel6 · 20/09/2015 07:42

Eleanor Grace

Mehitabel6 · 20/09/2015 07:43

I wouldn't worry about the shortened form- she is bound to pick her own when she is older. (If I was Nell I would quickly change it to Elllie)

Mehitabel6 · 20/09/2015 07:44

Sorry an extra l got in!
I think that actually I would insist on Eleanor.

Onedirectionarestillloved · 20/09/2015 07:45

Eleanor.

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/09/2015 07:45

Eleanor Grace

applecatchers36 · 20/09/2015 07:54

Eleanor Grace is my fav, agree Evie and Esme sound samey...

MyNameIsSuz · 20/09/2015 08:29

The thing with Eleanor is that there are tonnes of little ellies, so she will most likely want to be ellie too as soon as she is old enough. Evie and ellie are really similar!

Daphnedolittle · 20/09/2015 08:29

I like Esme best. Esme Alexandra is a lovely combo.
Nell is nice as a nn but a bit short for a standalone name with a one syllable surname.
Eleanor will get called Ellie which I dislike.
How about Alexandra as a first name? Evelyn and Alexandra go beautifully.

Rose58 · 20/09/2015 09:32

Esme Grace x

JB2908 · 20/09/2015 09:38

Thank you so much for your responses. Actually settling on a name is so hard, isn't it! To be honest I'm not all that keen on the nn Ellie so perhaps that's something I'll have to take into consideration as well.

Eleanor Grace, known as Nell.

I love Esme, but I think it's too similar to Evie too.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 20/09/2015 10:43

Alexandra Grace?

SmugairleRoin · 20/09/2015 10:54

Eleanor, followed by Esme.

I don't like Nell on its own at all.

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2015 10:58

I adore Nell- but as a shortening, not a main name.

So Eleanor Grace known as Nell is my favourite.

Or How about Helen? My niece is Helen Alexandra !

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2015 11:01

And there were on,y 51 Helens born in England last year- so it's incredibly unusual as well as being lovely and classic.

Narp · 20/09/2015 11:10

Nell is short for Eleanor, so I'd go Eleanor and then Nell as a NN

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 20/09/2015 11:36

Esme Grace

Tiggeryoubastard · 20/09/2015 11:39

Grace Alexandra would be my choice. Eleanor is a bit too similar to Evelyn. I absolutely love Evelyn rose, btw.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/09/2015 11:43

Eleanor Grace nn Nell

ShouldHavenotOf · 20/09/2015 11:49

I really like Nell.

Evie and Esme are so over used (in this area, anyway) and I must know 50 Ellies, adults and children.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 20/09/2015 13:32

Eleanor Grace is beautiful. Nell is such a cute nickname but definite should be just that, a nickname not an a official name IMO :)

GoldPlatedShitGibbon · 20/09/2015 13:40

If you choose Eleanor there's no way you'll be able to avoid Ellie. Could you have Grace as a first name? It's very popular but I'm guessing you don't mind that if you have an Evie.
