I stupidly told dm what I planned to call ds2

I just can't keep secrets! She frowned and suggested a load of other names and now I'm doubting my choice. Argh!

Ds1 has a slightly unusual name (often either praised on mn or slated for being too 'aspirational'), so wanted something slightly more run of the mill for ds2. I love Rupert but considering my very northern, wc pil can barely bring themselves to say ds1's name we decided to compromise and choose Rowan.

Having stupidly told dm the name I'm now doubting myself. It's alright isn't it? And wouldn't sound too odd with a sibling with a slightly unusual name?

Sorry Rowan. Auto corrected to Roman Blush

I'm trying to think of my dm's disapproval as being a sign it's actually a decent name (a theory that worked in my choice of dh).

I've never heard of it being spelt Roan before.it does look more masculine spelt like that (although is it a colour for a horse spelt like that?)

I'd always assumed Rohan was the Indian way of spelling it too.

I'd pronounce all of those differently though. Confused

Roan - Ro (as in Bo) an

Rohan - Ro (as in Bo) han

Rowan - Row (as in Bough) an

Ignore your pil.

My fil was horrified that sil was considering Grace for her dd.

Ugly and old fashioned was his opinion, luckily she chose the name anyway.

I have a Rowan OP, and he is a boy.

If you look at usage trends you'll see it's far more usual as a boy's name, despite what some MNers say. The hard data is available!

We loved Rowan for a boy but my granny's cat is called it - granny loves Rowan Atkinson. It was still on our list despite that. Never used as I have dds. I don't think mil likes one of our names but to be honest I don't like the name she gave dh's brother.

Rowan is a great name

It's a bit 'modern' maybe for our parents' generation, but a good name and not too out there
