Trying (in vain) to come up with a name for impending DC2, boys name sorted but so stuck on girls names.

What do people think of Margie? I met one today and thought it was pretty cool.

Cute but it's a nickname, I'd go for Margaret as a full name

Roygrace · 14/09/2015 19:35

I'd go for Margaret

I'd prefer margot

featherandblack · 14/09/2015 19:59

I just can't help thinking of marg I'm afraid but if you like it, that shouldn't matter. I love the name Linnet despite being told it makes everyone think of tampons! The Margie I know is really Marguerite - French for daisy I think. Very pretty.

FunkyPeacock · 14/09/2015 20:01

Would you pronounce it with a hard or soft G?

I prefer Maggie as a nn for Margaret

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/09/2015 20:24

I'd put Margaret on her BC.
Maggie
Margo
And Peggy
Are all nice nns, too

MaudeTheMopLady · 14/09/2015 20:53

Love it! I know a gorgeous Margie (pronounced with soft g) it's suh a characterful and delightful name!

Calliou · 14/09/2015 20:55

Agree it's a nick name. I also know a Margie short for Marguerite. Think it's a lovely name.

SmugairleRoin · 14/09/2015 21:14

First thought was Marge Simpson.
Second, margarine.
Third, Maggie Thatcher.
(Yes Marge and Maggie don't have quite the same name, but still that's what came into my head).

So...no from me! I do like Marguerite though.

turtlemania6 · 14/09/2015 21:49

Thanks all. I think we'd pronounce with a soft g but I'm less keen on Margaret for BC. Marguerite I like. Any other more formal options?

Margot or Marjorie?

overthemill · 14/09/2015 22:03

Margarita:-)

Sophronia · 14/09/2015 22:29

Marjorie or Margery nn Margie?

JakeyBurd · 14/09/2015 23:23

Hmm, Margi Clark sprang to mind there. It's OK though - nice than Margaret or Maggie.

mathanxiety · 15/09/2015 04:05

Marjorie is very nice, imo. I don't know why it hasn't been revived the way that Elsie and other granny names have. If I were to use the NN Margie it would be short for Marjorie.

NadiaWadia · 15/09/2015 05:23

Marjorie or Margery (think that's the old English spelling) are nicer than Margaret IMO. Also Margie seems to come more naturally from it?

Or there was a character in an American show called Margene (pronounced Marjeen) which would also work? Sounds a bit too close to margarine, though, maybe!
