Henry as brother for Harry?

madasabadger · 13/09/2015 00:06

I know Harry is traditionally a nickname for Henry, but we have a Harry and wondering if naming a brother Henry would be daft... any other suggestions welcome - really wanted a not-weird name, but also not in top 20 names list.

Yes, daft. Like having a William and a Billy, or a Katherine and Kathy.

TheBeautifulAndTheDamned · 13/09/2015 00:10

Rather odd I would have thought.

quicklydecides · 13/09/2015 00:12

They are the same name.

Wearyheadedlady · 13/09/2015 00:15

very silly indeed. and confusing...

Is it another H you're after? Is your Harry a Harold? I don't know if I actually like many of these (below) but here are lots of other H boy names

Herbert
Hubert
Harrison
Hugo
Hector
Harvey
Holden
Howard

the list goes on...

horsewalksintoabar · 13/09/2015 00:15

That's totally silly OP. Daft indeed. Goodness me.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 13/09/2015 00:16

Even ignoring that they're related they sound too similar. Easy to confuse which ds you're calling to.

FelixCited1 · 13/09/2015 00:20

I've taught a set of twins named Henry and Harry.Apart from amything else, I felt the names were too similar.

squoosh · 13/09/2015 00:29

Definitely not. I'd think you were bonkers.

madasabadger · 13/09/2015 00:35

Ha! Glad I asked - that would be a no then! Not looking for a name with an H - just quite like Henry. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for quick comments Smile

They are the same name. Also, Henry is in the top 20 names (#15).

Mrsindecision · 13/09/2015 10:07

Definitely a No-No! Both also very popular.

If you want a less used classic, how about:

Robert
David
John/Jonty
Christopher/Kit
Andrew
Matthew
Anthony

Good luck in choosing!

NickNacks · 13/09/2015 10:09

I'm not sure suggesting Harrison is any better!

Mrsindecision · 13/09/2015 10:11

Definitely no to Harrison!
Another possible:

Edward

Good luck!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 13/09/2015 12:32

How odd, like a William and Liam, or Euan and Owen, exactly the same name! Sorry op, it wouldn't work, and probably cause much confusion.

Not 20 names...

Marcus
Joseph
Micheal
Evan

Difficult to establish what 'type' of names you like, apart from 'Ha' sounding (pp did say Harvey).

merlottime · 13/09/2015 12:36

I think Fred and Frank go well with Harry.

overthemill · 13/09/2015 12:37

It's the same name. It's ridiculous I'm afraid

SavoyCabbage · 13/09/2015 12:46

There are twins in my school called Jeremy and Jeremiah.

PattyPenguin · 13/09/2015 17:13

Years ago, I knew of a family where all three boys were called variants of John (from various languages spoken in Britain).

It was generally thought wierd.

PattyPenguin · 13/09/2015 17:14

"Weird", even. Blame lack of sleep.

FishWithABicycle · 13/09/2015 17:38

Daft. Yes.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/09/2015 17:46

Well yes to be honest very daft. They're practically the same name.
As previously quoted it's like having a Michael and a Mike. A Jimmy and a James

madasabadger · 13/09/2015 18:04

Okay - am definitely not going for Henry. Lots of people don't realise Harry is a nickname for Henry, but enough of you know and think its daft so dumping it :) Don't have any preferences for names beginning with H - just want one that doesn't sound odd with Harry and ideally wasn't the most popular last year. Thanks for all the suggestions. Smile

Good lord don't name your kids Harry and Henry.

Aside from the fact that one is a version of the other (and not everyone knows that!!) they are far too similar.

Comingroundthemountain · 13/09/2015 22:27

Yeah sorry I think would be a bit strange

BelindaBagwash · 13/09/2015 22:37

I don't see Harry as a nickname for Henry - to my mind, Harry is short for Harold, Depends where you live though
