Willow or Esme

Middle name is Rose after DH mother. Struggling as

Esme is classic and can see any age female with this name but is it too old?

Willow is beautiful but is it too hippy?

Both are lovely. My issue with Willow though is if she grew up to be clumsy or dumpy I don't think it'd suit her.

So I'll say Esme, I don't think it's too old - and tbh old names are in so for her age group it will just seem like a normal name for their age range.

Haffdonga · 12/09/2015 22:36

If it's a vote I vote Esme. (traditional but not over popular so it will stay classic).

Willow reminds me of pets and popstars.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 22:38

I always say that willow tress are quite wide and round so I don't think she'd need to be willowy.

Esme is probably less likely to date though.

Blackcloudsbrightsky · 12/09/2015 22:39

I think they are both nice but Willow wins for me hands-down. It really doesn't go with our surname unfortunately as I love it and would have wanted it for DD - went for Flora eventually.

SmugairleRoin · 12/09/2015 22:39

True squoosh but willowy is traditionally describing something slender and graceful, no?
I'd have no problem with it apart from that...

Lunastarfish · 12/09/2015 22:41

EsMe as my rabbit was called Willow

squoosh · 12/09/2015 22:43

Yes willowy means long and slim I just personally never associate it with the name. I've heard people here discount Grace in case their daughter turns out to be clumsy. Seems a bit silly to me.

Sophronia · 12/09/2015 22:49

Esme Rose.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/09/2015 23:14

Think I'd vote for Esme. Willow as beautiful as it is. Is quite a lot to live up to.
She would have to be willowy to carry it off

Rosaaa · 13/09/2015 01:01

I'd say Esme as well

hattyhatter · 13/09/2015 01:10

Willow. Gorgeous, beautiful, lovely Smile.

Definitely a nature name but it doesn't say 'hippy' to me like Sky or similar do. And I don't get the 'willowy' thing either.

Esme is nice but there are just so many.

DandyDan · 13/09/2015 07:41

Esme Rose is a beautiful and classic combination which would sound lovely for a child but also sensibly mature for the adult she will become.

Willow Rose is too floaty and sounds like rosebay willowherb.

Error404usernamenotfound · 13/09/2015 08:43

Both are lovely. I don't think Willow would fail to suit her just because she turned out not to be 'willowy'; it makes me think of Buffy's best friend (not a bad thing, IMO).

Having said that, Esme goes better with Rose as a middle name.

Haffdonga · 13/09/2015 11:10

Willow Rose is too botanical. 2 plant names together could start sounding like a seed catalogue.

CakeRattleandRoll · 13/09/2015 14:46

Esme

AlphabetStew · 13/09/2015 16:20

I agree with Haffdonga

Rose58 · 13/09/2015 19:11

Thank you all so much! You made me feel so much better about baby girl Esme Rose. We love it! That you xx

Definitely Esme. I find Willow a bit silly as a name personally...I think it will date very quickly. Esme is more classic (and classy).

justaweeone · 13/09/2015 19:31

Both are lovely
I know a esme 19 yrs
Willow 17 yrs

miniHovis · 13/09/2015 19:33

I have an Esme and everybody seems to love her name or so they say anyway

RiverTam · 13/09/2015 19:35

Willow

Esme is nice but personally I always pronounce it wrong, so even if I know that this child is Esmay I will still say Esmee, and vice versa. Just can't get it right Blush.
