Honest opinions please,
Not for me but ndn DD is considering it, she's 36weeks
She said she is in two minds and asked my opinion, I was a bit surprised as it seems an old name,
Any thoughts?

It's not a joke! She likes the name
I said why not have it as a middle name, I've read some of your answers to her, she said she wants him to be cool don't choose Keith then
But she can see that it could be seen as abit old fashioned. She likes the idea of Keifer so we may be getting somewhere.......

It's got good associations for me and I think it's not the worst of the Derek-style names. Clive is horrible though, slimey. I think Keith Richards not Keith Chegwin though.

Keifer is awful - that really is in the made up name category (I think!) and is so associated with just one person that's I'd assume the child was just named after his mother's crush. What about Keir?

SwedishEdith · 12/09/2015 15:46

And I can't even spell it - Kiefer.

JakeyBurd · 12/09/2015 16:02

Only they would find it in an 'English names' book Mackerel as it's Scottish! One of the many Scots names that has made the transition from town name to surname to forename, but didn't make it to girl's name (unless you count Keitha and Keithina).

I like it, OP, and there were three born in Scotland last year. I reckon it's coming back. Wink

MackerelOfFact · 12/09/2015 16:10

Ah, well that's me told, Jakey! If I'd given it more than a moment's thought it's pretty obviously not an English name!

Barbarasmum · 12/09/2015 16:16

No

Bogburglar99 · 12/09/2015 18:04

It does have a certain something if you think of it in a Scottish context.

I do (showing my age) start humming the Spitting Image song 'paint your left knee green ... and pretend your name is Keith'. This could be a good or bad thing depending Smile

SteamPunkGoth · 12/09/2015 19:17

Keith. Some people take the piss on this thread! Grin

BaxterDawes · 12/09/2015 20:48

No! very nerdy.

JakeyBurd · 12/09/2015 21:24

Sorry Mackerel! Didn't mean to come across like that!

squoosh · 12/09/2015 22:17

You can depend on a Keith. He's often to be found leafing joyfully through the latest Black n Decker catalogue and dreaming of his next DIY adventure. His wife Brenda sends him to his garden shed with a flask of tea, some cheese and pickle sandwiches and strict instructions not to set foot back inside the house until the afternoon.

Nice man but I wouldn't call my kid Keith. Even Keith Richards hasn't made it cool, he's definitely more of a Keef.

Cerseirys · 12/09/2015 22:20

It doesn't bode well that the only Keiths I could immediately think of were Chegwin and Lemon!

Floralnomad · 12/09/2015 23:07

Those posters to whom the famous Keith's are Chegwin and Lemon , that says more about you than about the name ,to me a famous Keith would be Keith Allen , Keith Urban or Keith Powers .

squoosh · 12/09/2015 23:09

Keith Allen is the worst Keith of all!

And it takes a lot to be sub Keith Lemon.

BettyTurpinsHotpot · 12/09/2015 23:12

Keith Floyd was charismatic.

Cerseirys · 12/09/2015 23:13

Keith Urban? Well I guess Jon Bon Jovi's hair and stubble from 1996 and a freshly waxed chest all have their place...

squoosh · 12/09/2015 23:15

Forgot about Floyd! He was indeed the King of Keiths.

Cerseirys · 12/09/2015 23:34

Clive? CLIIIIVE!

SwedishEdith · 13/09/2015 18:01

Oh, god, you're forgetting the best Keith of all - David Cassidy in the Partridge Family! I've heard enough about the recent tv appearance to be a little nervous about this one
