Thoughts on Loveday

It's was my husband's grandmother's name and I've always been quite fond of it. We've discounted it so far in our name searching for baby on the way, but now considering it again - either as a first or middle name.

I'm interested to hear people's first impressions of it...

I know a child and an adult Loveday and AFAIK both of them like their names. It's unusual and I'm sure I raised an eyebrow when I first met one, but it's a momentary thing and then you just get used to it. I did the same when I met a Constance and no-one thinks that's an insane name.

I don't like it but have never heard it before and I don't live in Cornwall or anywhere near it. To be fair, lots of Irish names would probably sound ridiculous unusual to non-Irish people so it's really just a matter of taste and cultural reference.

I remember a reporter on the news was called Loveday and I always thought what a beautiful name, same when I heard Romilly, also on the news??
Some people are probably surprised by the name because they don't realise it's a legitimate name, bit like me when I first met a Boniface in college years ago, I soon learnt though!

I went to school with one. I remember thinking it was a bit of a strange name when I first met her (aged 11) but then I didn't really give it much thought after that. It was just her name. She wasn't bullied but we were a nice year group on the whole (and attended an independent all girls school if that makes any difference). Personally, it's not my taste at all and I do think it's a bit of an odd name. But each to their own and all that.

First thought here was Reverend Lovejoy from the Simpsons.

It is weird sounding to me but then, a lot of the African community have names like Blessing, Innocent etc so perhaps it wouldn't stand out too much.

It's ghastly, sorry

I know a beautiful and lovely adult Loveday. In all honesty I thought the name was a bit wacko when I first heard it. Now, knowing her, I find it absolutely beautiful, unusual and evocative.

I know of one (a friend's friend has one) and initially thought it was odd but it has really grown on me since.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/09/2015 19:47

I don't like it at all, sorry.

I love it because of the Little White Horse too. DH has vetoed it twice. Sad
