Struggling to decide Anna or Annie

TheWire · 09/09/2015 20:40

Like both. I prefer Annie. DH prefers Anna.

Obv if we go with Anna then she could be known as Annie. But hard to make a nickname stick if she or friends decide otherwise. So I think just go with Annie.

Is Annie a 'real' name though?
Annie also a bit similar to DS's name (think name like Jonny - so Jonny and Annie - too similar?)
But Anna maybe a bit too popular for me

Aaargh - I think DH will basically do whatever I want but if I am persuading him to Annie I want to make sure I think it is the right one.

I prefer Annie. It is absolutely a proper name!

LemonPied · 09/09/2015 20:45

I love both, my sis is an Anna and my mum an Annie, well, Annemarie really, but is always known as Annie.

Jw35 · 09/09/2015 20:46

Why not call her Anne? Annie is more of a nn for Anne than Anna I think! My mum is Anna and she hated Annie!
Both names are lovely whatever you decide!

OctoberCupcake · 09/09/2015 20:46

I love Annie; it was my great grans name, and it's one of my favourite films! Blush

Millipedewithherfeetup · 09/09/2015 20:46

Anna is lovely, Annie however does sound like a nn for Annabelle etc.

NotTodaySatan · 09/09/2015 20:47

Annie.

100% Annie.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 09/09/2015 20:50

Interesting you think Anna is more popular than Annie. I know far more little Annies than Annas (in fact I know no Annas under the age of 30). I think that's because Annabelle is a popular name amongst the 6 and unders and I've found it often gets shortened to Annie.
Annie is a bit too cutsie for my liking. So I'd personally go with Anna.

Anna, nickname Annie.

Onedirectionarestillloved · 09/09/2015 22:05

Anna.

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2015 22:06

Anna, nn Annie, then she has a choice.

Floggingmolly · 09/09/2015 22:07

They're both gorgeous; in a pinch I'd probably go for Anna.

mandy214 · 09/09/2015 22:09

Anna (but I have one so a bit biased Smile )

rhetorician · 09/09/2015 22:15

I have an Annie (my mother hates it, MIL loves it Hmm), but it's short for Anastasia...she is flamboyant enough to carry off her long name if/when she wants to use it

ashesandfire · 09/09/2015 22:16

Annie is a nn to me. Much much prefer Anna which is beautiful then use Annie as nn

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 09/09/2015 22:17

Anna is much nicer.

CremeEggThief · 09/09/2015 22:19

Anna gets my vote.

TinyMonkey · 09/09/2015 22:35

I am an Anna and my mum is Anne (occasionally called Annie by close family). I've always loved my name, but loathe Anne, and am on the fence about Annie - to me it's a diminutive rather than a proper name.

mrsschu · 09/09/2015 22:35

Much prefer Anna, it's more classic (and classy). Annie sounds a tad little girlish. Although I do have a very good friend called Annie, it's short for Anne Marie.

CakeRattleandRoll · 10/09/2015 17:10

Anna would be my choice.

SmugairleRoin · 10/09/2015 17:14

The huge popularity of -y sounding names puts me off it. I teach and the amount of Milly, Molly, Amy, Annie, Lily, Evie etc style names on children I work with is staggering. It starts to make them all sound insipid and blend into each other.

Twomonkeysandcounting · 10/09/2015 17:22

Anna. Beautiful name and I dont know that many. Annie is too much of a nickname for me.

reuset · 10/09/2015 17:31

Plain old Anne. I think that would be a nice change
