I like this name and it sounds great with our surname but does it sound a bit trying to be cool or like it will be dated?

Sophronia · 08/09/2015 17:27

I prefer it short for Zachary.

mrsschu · 08/09/2015 18:09

I'm not keen on Zac or Zachary. I don't think it's "try hard" but I do think it's dated already - sounds very American 1990's IMO.

HeadDreamer · 08/09/2015 18:56

Zachary was our boy's name of choices for DD2. I thought it's quite normal.

Marcipex · 09/09/2015 11:14

I like it.
I'd class it as mainstream. I've met several nice little Zacs.

TwmSionCati · 09/09/2015 11:16

used to be a 'try hard to be cool name' now it just sounds dated. tbh.

Zac sounds comical to my ears, like a cartoon sound. Not cool or trying to be cool imo.

dustarr73 · 12/09/2015 17:14

I have a Zak and its actually quite popular where i am.I didnt realise it otherwise he wouldnt be called Zak.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/09/2015 17:24

I like it.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 12/09/2015 17:30

I know two: one is a shortened version of Zachary and the other a shortened version of Isaac.

pinkyredrose · 12/09/2015 17:33

It's a bit dated. Then again the only zac I know is a spoilt brat so that could be colouring my view!

Rose58 · 12/09/2015 18:23

I like it. It's very in, in the NE of Scotland.

SchnooSchnoo · 14/09/2015 12:59

My brother is called Zac. He's 35! I guess this probably clouds my view as it sounds very normal to my ear, but I don't think it's dated too badly. I don't know any little ones myself.

Gummibaers · 14/09/2015 13:58

I don't like it and agree that it's starting to sound a little dated.

Minimaus · 16/09/2015 13:58

I don't like Zak or Zac/Zach/Zack. It sounds like a sack (of potatoes for example) and doesn't sound manly or strong imo.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 16/09/2015 18:23

I have always loved this name (though I prefer the Zach spelling). I know a few little ones called this (7yo, 4yo, 1yo). I don't think it sounds at all dated and wouldn't associate it with a particular era.

froggyjump · 16/09/2015 23:21

There are 4in DS3's reception class (2 x Isaac, both known as Zac, 1 x Zachariah and 1 x just Zac) so I guess it was really popular 4/5 years ago

maggiethemagpie · 18/09/2015 20:44

Agree with froggyjump, I have a Zac and he is four and a half! I still like his name, it's short for Zachary and I would have gone for the Zach spelling but DH didn't like it spelt that way (and I was still high on diamorphine from the C section so just agreed to whatever!)

It's one of those names that must have been on the up when we chose it as I didn't think there were that many Zacs around when I chose it but there are loads now! I think a few names can take off like that.

AwfulBeryl · 18/09/2015 20:46

I like it, Zachary was on our list for boys.

AwfulBeryl · 18/09/2015 20:47

I don't think it sounds dated. Maybe that's because I know quite a wide range of Zacs though.
