How does this sound for a boy?

As DS was born at 35 weeks due to me having preeclampsia and needing an emergency c section, it's fair to say we weren't really prepared in lots of ways, including names, so have been trying to sort that out.

We always struggled with names, but I think we've hit on the ones. We're thinking of Jonas Dominic Mysurname DHsurname (as 2 middle names, not double barrelled)

Would just appreciate any feedback - we want to present a name as a fait accompli to friends and family to avoid any arguments, so can't really ask them. Do the two names work together? Our main criteria were unusual and easy to spell with the potential for nns.

Are your surnames long?

I like Jonas but have a personal dislike for Dominic ridiculously based on a Dominic that I like and don't know and also reminds me of Damien

Do you mean your surname will be the middle name?

Are the surnames long with lots of syllables? I think Jonas Dominic Smith Jones would be ok but Jonas Dominic Humpadink-Popalopodus would be too much of a mouthful!

Congratulations! Personally I dislike Jonas (wasn't he the bringer of bad luck?) but do like Dominic.

Our surnames are both two syllables - I'd rather not go into specifics, but think Laurel and Hardy (if you could see our attempts at first time parenting, they are quite apt!)

Just had a sneaky google and Jonah is the bearer of bad luck. Jonas means dove in Hebrew, apparently

I like Jonas and as you say it has lots of nn potential (Joe, Jon, Jonny, Jonty). Could even be Joe-Doe to acknowledge the Dominic.

The only problem I can think of is if DC's surname begins with a vowel then the "s" at the end of Jonas would run into the surname. I'm not explaining this very well, but if the surname is eg. Ackerman, then Jonas Ackerman would sound like Jonah Sackerman.

The names seem perfectly fine to me.

Congratulations. :)

Surnames both begin with consonants. The idea is that DS will have two middle names. I largely go by my maiden name and DH and I always thought it would be nice to acknowledge that. We then had a thought that if he hated Jonas, he wouldn't have a back up name (my surname has been used as a first name, but it's fairly rare). So we've ended up going for two middle names for that reason

Jonas Dominic is great.

mrsschu · 08/09/2015 15:19

I like both Jonas and Dominic and they sound good together, go for it!

Fugghetaboutit · 08/09/2015 15:27

My surname is ds' middle name. I prefer josiah or Joshua to Jonas
