As well as being an Italian city, it is also a colour - reddish/orangey brown.

The reason I ask is because we've had a U-turn with names and now love Sienna again but our surname is Brown. I've purposely stayed away from colour names (eg Scarlett) for that reason but do you think people actually know Sienna is a colour?

Interested to know your thoughts as you've all been so helpful with my previous posts. I'm now 8 days overdue - eek!!! Confused

Have not met any Siennas but do know that it is a colour so perhaps not the best fit with your surname. If you are not 100% sure about Zara it seems a pity to use it. Try scribbling it as part of a trio of your names as if on a Christmas card, or putting down her initials and surname as if on a bank card. How does it look?

My own experience was didn't know our babies' gender before birth but knew what we'd call DC1 from the moment we knew I was pregnant but it was hard deciding on a name for DC2. Come the day we had a couple of names in mind but when she was placed in my arms I looked at her and a name popped into my head. Perhaps similar will happen to you. Smile

I think sienna brown sounds lovely actually. I wouldn't immediately associate sienna with being a colour but that's just me. I like it :)

How about Serena or Seren?

This is taking me back to the box of watercolours I had when I was a girl.

Yes, I know Sienna is a colour. And given its hue, as wouldn't put it with the surname Brown (sorry)

Yes, every child with a paintbox knows that Sienna is a shade of brown! Michael Rosen did a lovely R4 programme a few months ago about colour names, including Sienna.

DH liked Sienna but we have a colour surname too so I vetoed it.

YerTiz · 08/09/2015 16:26

Ooh Seren Brown sounds lovely Smile

I know a child with the surname Gray, whose first name makes a perfect name for a paint!

Sienna will forevermore remind me if this fantastic advert Ikea put out in Scotland when the Glasgow store was about to open...
