I love Wilfred but am worried he may be bullied Hmm could always go with Will or Fred, I suppose.

I also like Sebastian but my close friend named her baby that.

If possible I'd love there to be a literary connection and I also like nature names (but not rowan!)

Thanks!

How about Kit (from Christopher)? Kit Marlowe? I think it's my favourite boys name at the moment.

Shock would Wilfred be bullied!?

I hope not since I have a 15 month old Wilf. Sad

if it helps, I also quite liked Rufus.

summerdying · 27/08/2015 12:05

Mm not a big fan of that - sorry!

(I am too picky, I know!)

Why the hell would he be bullied?? Very odd thing to say about a name.

summerdying · 27/08/2015 12:06

Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that Wilfred would be attending the best schools in a bohemian area. Otherwise I'd grab it like a shot.

Also my friend has a Jack Russell named wilf Grin which I must admit is steering me away from Wilfred slightly!

Fair enough, I like it and it fitted your literary connection.
Fwiw, I know 2 Wilf's under 3yrs. I doubt Wilf would be bullied.

NoMoreRenting · 27/08/2015 12:10

Ignore the errant apostrophe there. Bloody auto correct

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/08/2015 12:34

I don't think children are bullied about their name. I mean having a boy and naming him sue may be taking a risk but I certainly would not say there is anything risky about Wilfred. He can opt for Will or Fred

RedToothBrush · 27/08/2015 13:16

I think you are being ridiculous if you think Wilfred will get bullied in any area tbh. Its still very much of its time. Wilfred is more likely to get bullied for other reasons in a 'less bohemian' area.

SpaggyBollocks · 27/08/2015 13:35

or how about Ralph? similar sound to Wilf, presuming you would have used that shortening.

it's the old english world for wolf I think.

SpaggyBollocks · 27/08/2015 13:35

*word, obviously

This is weird as I've stumbled on a baby name site which has a list of the highest climbers in the baby name stats between 2013 and 2014 and another thread had a name on the list...

Anyway Wilf saw one of the biggest jumps in popularity between 2013 and 2014. It was the 8th biggest jumper, up 579 places to 825th in the ONS stats. 37 boys were given the name.

Also Wilfred clocked in at 235th with 234 babies given the name. In 2013 it was a little lower at 245th with 205 babies given the name.

(there were also 10 boys called Wilfrid in 2014).

If you check out the curve since 1996 here its definitely on the rise.
