Merryn - spelling?

I watched a film the other day and it had a girl in it called Merryn - no idea of spelling but pronounced Merrin, I think I like the spelling with a y but I don't generally like deliberately mis spelling names'so I'd like to know the accepted spelling of this name.. Meryn doesn't look right and makes me think more Mer-Yun.

Does anyone know this name and how it would usually be spelled? And do you like it?

I love the name Merryn. My husband vetoed it for our second girl but if we ever have a third he can sod off, I'm having it! I think originally Merryn was a man's name, there's a place called St Merryn in Cornwall

godsavethequeeeen · 26/08/2015 00:14

I know a Merryn. it's a lovely name.

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/08/2015 08:34

Yes, Merryn. Wonderful name.

Pigzoom · 26/08/2015 13:03

I know a Meryn spelt like that, lovely name

Laquila · 26/08/2015 13:55

It's too of our list for our baby due in Feb, and it didn't occur to me it was spelt any way other than Merryn, which I think looks "right", IYKWIM.

Out of interest, what other girls' names do you like, OP? I'm having real trouble with girls' names!

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 26/08/2015 22:09

It's interesting that Merryn is cornish because I also really like the name Karenza which I believe is Cornish meaning Love. I'd like to spell it with a C though, and shorten to Carrie but I guess that is wrong for the cornish spelling.

Other girls names I like include Cordelia, Sadie, Phoebe, Elara, Marnie and Cadence...

I know a Merryn but she gets called Merry which really suits her - it's a lovely name.

Laquila · 27/08/2015 08:50

Love Cordelia and Phoebe, and I like Marnie and Elara too. I also love Corin but I think it's used more for boys than girls (not so keen on Corinne).

We called our 9 daughter Merryn! Just out of interest what film were you watching?x

5madthings · 18/02/2016 19:28

It's Merryn, my dd is Merryn, she is just five and we live it. Always get lots of positive comments.

I like that it is unusual but not wierd iyswim and dd loves her name as well.

On average there are 30-40 babies a year called Merryn according to ons statistics.

5madthings · 18/02/2016 19:31

Btw I am expecting Dc6 due easter and dh likes Marnie if baby is a girl, not sure we can have a Marnie and a Merryn. Cordelia has also been mentioned and corinna.

unicornthong · 18/02/2016 20:37

Merryn is gorgeous! Karenza is a bit Confused though, I think.

Love Sadie, Phoebe and Marnie, though.

CarliLane · 18/02/2016 22:40

Sorry I should have said 9 week old!
I will keep a look out for the film.
I like names that are unusual but not wacky!!
Our other daughter is Niamh.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 19/02/2016 01:20

Love this name.

No more DCs for me, but if by any bizarre chance I end up with a daughter in the future I'd love to call her Merryn. It's a mixture of my parents' names who've both passed away.

Love the nn Merry too.

MadameDePompom · 19/02/2016 10:55

Merryn is so pretty.

georgetteheyersbonnet · 21/02/2016 01:03

I like Merryn (and Meryn). I know a Carenza with a C, it's unusual but not outlandish.

MyBoysRockMyWorld · 21/02/2016 01:05

It is spelt Muireann in Irish (pronounced Mir-in)

squoosh · 21/02/2016 01:11

Muireann is actually pronounced M'wir-un.

Although that name will now forever remind me of Catastrophe Grin
