I like this name could it be used as it is?

I'm not keen tbh as, to me, it's a nickname.
It also reminds me of dental floss.

pinkyredrose · 17/08/2015 07:55

Wouldn't it be short for Florence? Reminds me of tooth floss too.

LittleCandle · 17/08/2015 07:56

Flossie is a sheepdog. Sorry

poocatcherchampion · 17/08/2015 07:57

Specifically my parents' sheepdog

BertrandRussell · 17/08/2015 07:59

No. Short for Florence or Frances. She's going to spend most of her life being a grown up. She needs the choice- don't inflict a cutesy name on an adult woman.

Hopelass · 17/08/2015 08:03

My grandparents old English sheepdog. Sorry. Smile

Justmuddlingalong · 17/08/2015 08:05

Name of a hamster I had when I was young. I therefore like the name, just not for a human. Sorry.

babymouse · 17/08/2015 08:07

It's very old fashioned. But who knows, you could start a trend.

addictedtosugar · 17/08/2015 08:09

I know a Flossie. But she has the option of Florence if she wants. Love it.

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2015 08:12

It was our cat's name.

BleachEverything · 17/08/2015 08:13

Tooth floss

happystory · 17/08/2015 08:14

I prefer Florence (or flora) that way you could call her Flossie. She'd have the choice when she was older.

KnockMeDown · 17/08/2015 08:15

Bear in mind that you are not just naming a baby, but also the adult she will become.

Do any of these sound good?

spanakopita · 17/08/2015 08:17

Awful

sanityforlunch · 17/08/2015 08:18

It's a pet name for a girl in my area. Anybody can be referred to as Flossie.

NotdeadyetBOING · 17/08/2015 08:18

Name for a dog.

BeautifulBatman · 17/08/2015 08:19

Terrible

KitKat1985 · 17/08/2015 08:25

Sorry I also think it's a dogs name. Florence is nice, though if she ever has nieces or nephews you need to bear in mind that she would then by 'auntie flo'. Coughs.

VirginiaTonic · 17/08/2015 08:29

Yes, it is used round here as a nickname for any girl.

TheCowThatLaughs · 17/08/2015 08:45

I prefer florrie as a nickname for Florence
If you do want to call her flossie then make it short for a real name

TRexingInAsda · 17/08/2015 08:57

It's a rabbit's name, and she'd never be taken seriously in a professional job.

Baby Flossie sounds cute. A stripper called Flossie would work too, or even a waitress. Professional jobs, not so much: "My lawyer, Flossie, advised me to..." "The verdict was taken by Mrs Justice Flossie..." "The cause of death was established by Dr Flossie as terminal boredom".

Its fine as a nickname, absolutely dreadful as an actual name.

I think it's important to give your child a name that can adapt to their personality and gives them easy choices about what to call themselves.

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 09:03

Isn't it also another word for a bit of a pain in the arse?

If i was misbehaving as a child my dad would say "she's being a bit of a flossie"

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 09:05

Urban dictionary has some, errr, interesting thoughts on it
