Just stumbled on this which is all kinds of awesome. Its a list of real names from 1868. Its cracking!

Which names do you think should be reused in 2015?!

I like Hampton Court, Secret Powell and poor Plethora!

PaulineFossil · 15/08/2015 23:23

Also hoping Meliora was not a younger sibling...

VixxFace · 15/08/2015 23:28

I like evis for a girl and king, caesar and Hampton Blush

ShipShapeAhoy · 15/08/2015 23:31

I wonder if any of the first names were passed on as surnames as I see quite a few that I recognise as surnames.

mathanxiety · 16/08/2015 06:43

Oh, poor little Urania Catharine...

But hip hip hoorah for Britannia Boadicea.

itsraininginbaltimore · 16/08/2015 06:54

This is fabulous. Grin

I am partigularly digging Silence, and Plethora for girls and Thickness, Debonnaire and Lemon for a boy. Grin

On a more serious note I could totally want a world with more Lysanders and Giacomos in it.

I believe Giacomo is pronounced Jacka-mo for anyone who is not sure.

I like the cut of Faerie Edith Lilian's mother's gib as well.

itsraininginbaltimore · 16/08/2015 06:58

OMG I've noticed Florence Gooseberry.

My happiness cup runneth over. Grin

Ladybug Arden would work as a middle name. Especially if your first name was Ivan.

Elystra and Lucebella are rather lovely.

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2015 10:02

Your challenge is to try and suggest some of these on MN thread and get the OP to add them to their shortlists!!! Evil Grin

This is a fabulous list. I'm quite taken by Faerie Edith Lilian, you could totally get away with naming a baby that today.

Skeppers · 16/08/2015 10:09

I like Peregrine and Prentice!

This thread is too good to leave in Baby Names where it will get missed by so many people. You should post in Chat with a link to it OP

I'm sending this to DH for baby due in Feb.

Will let you know if we end up using one! Grin

There's a great book by Russell Ash called 'Potty, Fartwell and Knob' in which he lists hundreds of names from past registers of births marriages and deaths i.e. Whitehead Turnip, Ulaya Cockin, Dresden China Fretwell, Dansey Dansey and Fanny Flow. Many more too rude to post. It has a few modern howlers at the back too - Perry Alpacino Brown, Bamboo Cheeseman, Lollipop Mae, Sundance Starmoon, and Ocean Tsunami Golden. Worth a read.

Rivercam · 17/08/2015 09:53

Ocean tsunami! Did they know what a tsunami was when they named her/him?

stevienickstophat · 17/08/2015 09:57

A relative of mine did our family tree and one nineteenth century little girl in our family rejoiced in the name of 'Number Eleven'.

I think they ran out of ideas...

We also had a Fanny married to a John Thomas. True.

My daughter's name is Mehetabel. It's long but lovely in my opinion but some people are definitely a bit bemused by it!
