Hi
Trying to finalise a girls name, I thought we were set on Nancy but Dh likes Darcey now as well. Do you like it or know many?

Yes emma, spelling matters a lot when choosing a name.

emmalouise90 · 13/08/2015 12:33

But that's the decision of the op it's still the same name x

Notso · 13/08/2015 12:41

I much prefer Nancy to Darcey. Darcey is nice enough but I'm always a bit unsure about the 'arse' sound.

scatterthenuns · 13/08/2015 13:59

it's still the same name

Not always though. Katie and Kayteigh are very different names, despite sounding the name.

I feel that a Y ending is more adult than an ie ending, when given the choice, for example.

Emmalouise typed a variation of the spelling used by the op, and she's aware now it's not what op plans on using. Big whoop.

If she'd typed Katie instead of Katy, no one would care.

I like it but prefer it spelled Darcy(for a girl)

minitoot · 13/08/2015 14:17

Marnie is also a lovely name! Prefer both to Nancy which always makes me think of Bill Sikes...

Nancy! swoons

Kayteigh isn't a name, surely?! Shock

D'Arcy is a common enough Irish surname (prob Norman origin?) but I agree it's the Tracy of the 2010s as a girls' name. Also, it makes me think of Fr Brian D'Arcy, the inspiration for Dermot Morgan's Father Trendy., rather than an aloof Austen marital prize.

reuset · 13/08/2015 14:38

I agree that it's the Tracey of this decade, probably.

You'd hope not, but there's always one or several who will use such names. I'm never surprised nowadays . And yes, Kateigh has definitely been used by some as a first name.

I really like Darcey, as long as it's not hyphenated with silly names such as Rae. I don't know any Darceys so maybe the popularity depends on where you live or age of children....
