I've never heard it before. I think I like it pronounced eema, not eye-ma though.

I'm Dutch, and I've never heard the name before. I know a woman called 'Ina' (same kind of pronunciation), I think it's short for something but not sure what - possibly Wilhemina, although Mina or Mien would be the more common shortening. Not very modern though.

There's also 'Ieme', which is a male name you might hear in the Northern, Frisian-speaking part of the country.

I agree that it sounds like 'I'm a...', but then i've always thought that Isla always sounds too much like 'I'll er... (make a cake, for example)' but that doesn't seem to have put people off!

Actually I think Eimear has more of an 'r' sound on the end so sounds a bit softer. Can you use that instead?

I know an Ima. She's English and in her '60s. Was very beautiful as a young woman, if a bit troubled from what I've heard. Has had an interesting life.

She's the only one. With he it's pronounced Eema, though, not I'm A. I think most people would say it the second way? I was introduced before I ever saw it spelled.
