How would you pronounce 'Neva'

I wouldn't use 'Niamh'. But wondering if Neva just looks like a 'misunderstanding' of Niamh?? Neva is apparent Spanish, meaning 'white snow', which might be a nice option for my winter baby Smile

Like the river in St. Petersburg. Natalia Vodianova has got a daughter named Neva, after the river. I think it's beautiful.

AyeAmarok · 10/08/2015 20:59

Yep, DarkWhisper has it!

If you want Neeeee-vah them maybe Niamha? Like Niamh with an A.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 10/08/2015 21:01

Neeee vaaahhhh
But I would Never call a child Neva

Stoneysilence · 10/08/2015 21:03

Nay-vah

mydogeatsnutstoo · 10/08/2015 21:04

Makes me think of naevus ( as in a birthmark) so I don't like it much - but would pronounce Neeva.

SlayZ · 10/08/2015 21:05

I wouldn't spot the similarity. Sorry.

I would say Neeeva but be very unsure if it was correct. Second choice Nev-a.

SlayZ · 10/08/2015 21:05

Makes me think of Nivea...

Junosmum · 10/08/2015 21:06

Nee va.

JRShotMe · 11/08/2015 11:35

Just in case the meaning is important to you, the word 'neva' doesn't actually exist in Spanish - snow is 'nieve' and 'white snow' would be 'nieve blanca'. 'Neve' is snow in Italian. I just Googled it and it is on some baby name websites with that meaning, they have probably extrapolated it from the verb 'nevar' which means 'to snow', or 'nevada' which means 'snowy' or 'covered in snow' but actual snow is 'nieve' and, although all snow is white, the word white doesn't explicitly feature in any of them!

To answer the original question I would pronounce it 'nevah'.

Dixiebell · 11/08/2015 16:03

Neeva

Puremince · 11/08/2015 17:22

Nee-vah

Rosaaa · 11/08/2015 18:10

Like Puffykins said, I'd pronounce it like the river

susurration · 12/08/2015 20:35

knee-vah

Capewrath · 12/08/2015 20:46

Nayva. And would assume you had conceived on a white night in St Petersburg. Sorry.

ch1134 · 12/08/2015 20:55

Neeva.
And as JRshotme says, it doesn't mean white snow in Spanish.

Capewrath · 12/08/2015 20:57

The Spanish name is Nieves. Have a friend called it.
