Always liked Ruby and Lily but thwy were v popular so we never used them with our 2 daughters.
Considered Lilith and Lilia but are we trying too be too different?
Love Matilda but aware its becoming popular and maybe even 'trendy'.
Daughters are Isabelle and Eliza. Which goes best?

Same, I always liked Ruby and Scarlett but they became too popular.

I like Tilly and people have advised for Matilda and nn Tilly

Just to throw a curve ball, how about Lilah (or Lila/Lyla) as opposed to Lilith and Lilia. Lilah is on my shortlist Smile

Spydra · 07/08/2015 14:06

Matilda is my favourite with those 2.
Both Ruby and Lily seem very "now" - Matilda is less 2015.

FatSwan · 07/08/2015 14:08

I like Matilda and Ruby, Lily is OK. I LOVE Lilith!

loveulotslikejellytots · 07/08/2015 14:09

My 3 favourite names! Grin

I wouldn't go for Lily, with your other names it can be a bit of a mouthful.

What about Molly or Milly?

BeautifulStars93 · 07/08/2015 14:16

We did consider Molly but its a no go because of a family friends death.
Not keen on Lyla. Im very fussy with names x

Matilda Ruby is a very pretty name

marinacortina · 07/08/2015 15:11

They are all very very popular recently.

I used to love Matilda, and if I'd had a daughter in the 80s that's what I would probably have called her, but it was deeply unfashionable then. However I really dislike Tilly, so it's just as well.

Sophronia · 07/08/2015 15:41

Matilda

Fizzyplonk · 07/08/2015 16:15

Lydia, Agatha, Anya or Delilah?

I think Matilda goes best if your options.

marshmallowpies · 07/08/2015 16:22

Martha
Maria
Meredith
Marianne
Miranda
Marina

  • all could be alternatives to Matilda which are a bit more unusual right now.

Lily and Ruby are both lovely but much too popular right now.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/08/2015 21:27

I don't like Lilith, sorry it's daft not different. Lilia is lovely though. I would think you were trying to be different by using Lilia.
I would consider a name such as Amanda Janet, Susan, Christine Michelle or Lisa to be different
Not too fussed on Ruby or Matilda sorry.

I love Ruby. Just love it.

stopitcaroline · 10/08/2015 02:18

Technically, you've already got two forms of Elizabeth with Eliza and Isabelle. I'd avoid Lily because it and Lilybet can be nicknames for Elizabeth. I also don't care for Lily; I find it a bit too precious, especially next to gorgeous and strong Isabelle and Eliza. Ruby I've never liked. I'm American and it isn't used much here, but as a general rule I think it's easy for gem names to err towards tacky. Matilda would definitely be my choice. I think it would be great with the other two.

Fruityflapjack · 10/08/2015 03:08

My DD is a Lillian (after her maternal GGM) we nn to Lilly but also use Lillian a fair bit too.

Vijac · 10/08/2015 20:03

Matilda. Beautiful.

reuset · 10/08/2015 20:09

Mathilde

reuset · 10/08/2015 20:13

Sorry, Matilda. I have a Matilda (Mathilde), we also nick name her Matty most of the time. Lovely name! Ruby would be next choice.

sweetpeame · 10/08/2015 23:04

Lily
Mathilda
Ruby
in that order. Not a fan of Ruby, I think it will be dated soon. Mathilda and Lily are more classic names and even though they are popular won't date the way Ruby will IMO.

StevieJo · 10/08/2015 23:16

I love all 3 but Lilith and Matilda are my favourites

marinacortina · 11/08/2015 00:41

I'm afraid I think all three will date.

None of these names have been fashionable in my lifetime until recently, and my mother (born in the 1930s) would have thought them all old-fashioned too.
