Love the name Arla, but is it now massively associated with Dairy products?

So.... We really love the name Isla, then I threw Ayla into to mix too, and we both love that. Then I read on here somewhere, someone suggesting to another poster- Arla, loved it, we pretty much decided on it, then I got an email about Arla butter?? Bugga!!!! They stole my name! Haha! I hadn't heard of it at all before, is it now a no no for a girls name? I wouldn't call her Lurpak! :)
So I guess I'm also asking...
Isla
Ayla
Or
Arla

Thanks :)

I'm in Leeds, and if you said 'what do you associate Arla with' I'd say Arla dairy. But if you introduced me to a little girl called Arla I don't think it would cross my mind for more than a second, if that!

LeoandBoosmum · 04/08/2015 16:14

How about Orla?

fixuplooksharp · 04/08/2015 19:07

I like Orla but Dh isn't as keen as he is on Isla, Ayla or Arla. And because we love all three we have kept with those but can't make a decision. I am usually super independent and decisive but this is killing me! I literally cannot choose!

I think Isla is played out tbh...so many about! Ayla seems like Layla without the L. Arla, not keen for the reason you stated... I'm not helping, am I?
Have you considered Anya or Lila (pronounced Lyla)? :)

fixuplooksharp · 04/08/2015 20:29

A family friends child is called Anya, so not that one. Lila/Lyla is on our shortlist but for some reason DH has it in his head children would bully, and turn the name into Liar. I can see his point, but children can be so mean, they will always find something to pick on anyway!

The Arla factory is quite close to us. I would associate with Dairy. What about Alba?

LeoandBoosmum · 04/08/2015 22:55

I think Lila/ Liar is a bit of a stretch. Had you thought of Leila (pronounced Layla)?

LeoandBoosmum · 04/08/2015 22:56

Hmmm...just thought of Lara too.

Lilipot15 · 04/08/2015 23:16

Arla = dairy for me I'm afraid.
Someone else's point about people mistaking it for Isla or Orla (is that how it is spelt?) is valid - can't be good to have to spell the name all the time.

Alba is the Gaelic word for Scotland. Never heard of it as a first name, not sure what Scots folk would think (maybe it's used there, I don't know).

lastqueenofscotland · 04/08/2015 23:44

Arla is a qualification people who work in residential letting often need...

IHeartKingThistle · 04/08/2015 23:50

Carla?

BagsyThisName · 05/08/2015 07:37

Alba is a lovely (and proper) name.

Isla became super popular but actually now there seem to be more names trying to be like Isla but a bit different, eg Ayla - I know more Aylas than Islas now.
Arla will also merge with all the aylas kaylas aaliyas . So fine if you love it but I wouldn't pick it if you want it to be or sound very different.

fixuplooksharp · 05/08/2015 08:23

Right Arla is now out!! Thanks ladies :)) now between Isla and Ayla, and part of me thinks, as Isla has been our favourite girls name since we had our son 7 years ago, we should go with it??

My little girl is called Arla Jaye, people always comment how pretty it is. She's three now but before she was one I'd never heard of arla dairy x

Rhyannon123x · 29/04/2017 12:52

My daughter is also Arla ☺ I love it because of the meaning she who soars like an eagle"
Didn't bother me about the dairy thing...Im in Scotland and we have Grahams dairy...And I don't think of milk anytime O speak or see a Graham lol.
Can't imagine my Arla having anything but her name... 🤗😂

Babyk12 · 29/04/2017 12:56

I am not aware of that dairy company so don't worry too much about that if you like the name :)

It is where I live. One of the main factories was in the neighbouring town n even though it's long been bulldozed and had houses put on it it's still known as the arla site. So I wouldn't go for it personally

Mamarla · 05/11/2018 16:54

Well, it's been 3 years and i would like to hear what name you picked. Let me introduce myself. I'm 31 yaers old mom living in Finland, i have two boys and now I'm expecting a girl. Due date is March 2019.
And my name is Arla :)
I can tell you the meaning of Arla. It doesn't mean eagle (like somebody though it did). It means early. It's an old swedish (well, scandinavian, because it's also danish and norwegian) word.
Arla is the timing when the first sunlight touch the ground in the mornings. Also been told that it's an old scandinavian mythological creature like a light fairy that brings the Sunlight.
"Arla på morgon" means early in the morning and it's that time in the morning that in old days they let cows out on the fields. That's why this dairy company has this name. I'm sorry about bad typing. English is not my first language.
Sincerely
Arla from Finland
