How many Atlas' do you know?

Hey all, due in a few weeks and we are naming our son Atlas Isaiah. My only concern is that I don't want to choose a name that's too popular/becomes popular!
When I named my daughter Ava ten years ago, there were no other Ava's around-now they're everywhere! Same happened with my son Sonny 8 years ago!
I know it shouldn't matter but I'm just curious.....
Thank you :)

I know one, aged 2. He is growing up to be quite stocky which helps. Not a name I'd ever use, but once you know a kid with that name you can't imagine them being called anything else, so as far as I can see, it suits him.

Amimitchell · 02/08/2015 16:39

If he's anything like his dad- 6'3" and VERY muscular naturally, I don't think he'll have any issues Smile

well i like it, and your meaning behind it Smile

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2015 17:04

I really like your reasoning, and would use it for those reasons alone. I wanted to call DD Isis for similar reasons - it being an old name for the River Thames, and DH comes from v close to where the Thames rises in Gloucestershire and i come from Central London.

MamaLazarou · 02/08/2015 17:19

The plural of Atlas is Atlases.

Sophronia · 02/08/2015 18:30

I don't know any, but I like the name.

getbusyliving · 02/08/2015 18:37

names.darkgreener.com/#atlas

Only 12 born in 2013 but definitely on the rise as 0 in 2010 Smile

sebsmummy1 · 02/08/2015 18:39

Nope, I don't know of one probably because most people think it's a big book, not a name.

drudgetrudy · 02/08/2015 18:41

I don't think there's any chance of Atlas going up in popularity like Ava.

Highlandbird · 02/08/2015 18:42

Don't know any but I love it, and the meaning behind why you've chosen it! Smile

marinacortina · 02/08/2015 18:45

Poor boy will have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

CurlsLDN · 02/08/2015 18:45

I don't know any, but I really like it

ShadowStar · 02/08/2015 18:48

I don't think there's much need to worry about it rocketing in popularity so you're safe there.

holmessweetholmes · 02/08/2015 18:50

The people being all snarky and ho ho about it being a big book of maps, did you not know it was a name from ancient mythology? Names of Greek and Roman gods seem pretty popular. And it's a range of mountains. Place names are also quite popuIar. haven't met any Atlases, but I don't think it's that outlandish.

Kasey86 · 02/08/2015 18:57

It's not to my taste, but I like the story behind the meaning :). If you love it then go for it.

Kasey86 · 02/08/2015 18:59

I also don't think it's that outlandish, I've met a boy called Tarquonian (not a typo and not called Tarquin for short) and a little girl called Sequoia. I also know of a little boy called Yellow Hmm

NerrSnerr · 02/08/2015 19:00

I don't know any. I can imagine geography lessons and jokes about the weight of the world becoming quite annoying for him quite quickly.

scatterthenuns · 02/08/2015 19:03

We're on the MN baby name board... of course we are all familiar with Greek mythology Grin

We're on the Baby Naming board full stop, that's enough in itself to get most names posted on here a flaming.

I tried to sneak the name Eugene past and the results weren't pretty Shock

Smartleatherbag · 02/08/2015 19:56

Yeah, thanks holmes, for explaining that. Of course people know that, you patronising fool.

Smartleatherbag · 02/08/2015 19:58

It's mumsnet, not netmums.

AlmaMartyr · 02/08/2015 20:00
