Is the name Albert Lowe a terrible idea?

This is my first post. I am expecting my first baby, a boy, in a few days. I really like the name Albert but my last name is Lowe. Do you think it goes? Do you automatically shorten it to Al? Do you think people will think Al Lowe like "Aloe" or "-'ello". I was thinking it could be shortened to 'Albie'? Do people shorten to what they want or what you want?

You shorten it to what you want, so if you like Albie then that's what you insist they are known as.
I think it's nice, in Albert and Albie form. The Al form is ok too, as it doesn't have to be put with your surname on every occasion

As soon as he is old enough to express a preference, it should be shortened (if at all) to what he wants. It's his name and it's his privilege.

In this case I don't think any of the shortenings would pose a problem.

I know an Albert its shortened to Albs and Albie, it's a great name if you like it go for it

Oh I never thought of that, but yes it's a risk and not one I'd be prepared to take.
So yes with a surname like Lowe. I would avoid An Al name,

I think if you call him Albert and introduce him as Albert, other people will use it, you might choose to shorten it to Albie, so will others.

Well I immediately though "allo" (said in a French accent) when I read the thread title, so yes, I think you will encounter people like me who will make that connection.

It won't matter when your DS is little, because you can head it off by always introducing him as Albert or Albie. But I imagine that when he gets to secondary school, it'll be picked up by some bright spark.

(I was going to suggest Robert as an alternative, but have realised that would make Rob Lowe )

I think it's fine. Albert is a great name.

Avoid names that begin with S as well .
