Oh wow they are brilliant names actually aren't they!
I'd go for Tobermory, Tomsk, Adelaide and Shansi and not even have to be pushed! Adelaide is a nice normal name anyway.

Actually I really like Tobermory...

Sparklingbrook · 28/07/2015 19:34

Oh wow they are brilliant names actually aren't they! er, no they are the Wombles names, and awful.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 28/07/2015 20:43

Orinoco would depend on your accent .. it could sound quite posh!

00100001 · 29/07/2015 07:46

sparking is just a bit miffed she was forced to change her son's name to Cholet by deed poll yesterday Grin

Orinoco could sound both posh and un-posh, but then so could any posher name.
Jonty
"OI JON-TEEEE, get over 'ere!" vs "Jonteh! Darling! Come over here please!"

And change DS2's name and our surname so everything matched.

WitchofScots · 29/07/2015 07:50

Tobermory for a boy, Orinoco for the middle name.
Adelaide Cholet for a girl.

Preminstreltension · 29/07/2015 10:54

Maybe it's Orinoco for the Estuary English speakers and Horinoco in the Home Counties Grin

missmargot · 29/07/2015 11:02

Best thread title I've seen all week.

DS's nickname is Womble because he's at that toddler stage of wombling around helping himself to things and hiding them.

WitchofScots · 29/07/2015 11:22

If you named your DC Stepney, would they be a bell ringer as an adult?

NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 29/07/2015 11:33

My great uncle actually was named Orinoco! He was from a Cornish mining family and had relatives who had gone to work in mines in Venezuela. He was named in honour of the family's mining history. He was Orin for short.

LastOneDancing · 29/07/2015 14:20

Grin missmargot!

I have one of those too!
What a great nickname (and where is my ipod?).

steppemum · 29/07/2015 14:25

Adelaide
Alderney
Cairngorm
Shansi
Stepney

I remember the original, don't remember any of these.

(I can even sing the WHOLE song)

One of my more useful skills

'underground, overground, wombleing free'...

LastOne probably in the same place as my car keys Grin

Fridgedooropen · 29/07/2015 18:33

Ooh, I remember Cousin Botany now! And Cairns and Perth. Sticking with my original choices though Smile

vestandknickers · 29/07/2015 18:40

I love the idea of a world in which you HAVE to name your children after Wombles! Grin

I'd call all of my children Tomsk.

DrElizabethPlimpton · 29/07/2015 18:42

Orinoco because he was my favourite.

DrElizabethPlimpton · 29/07/2015 18:46

Thinking about it, can I make my 24 yo DS change his name by deed poll to Orinoco. It is a brilliant name.

Hassled · 29/07/2015 18:49

Most of those Womble names are interlopers from Stepney Common or somewhere that's not 1970's Wimbledon. Only the 70s Wombles were the true Wombles - you didn't see bloody Caingorm belting out Remember You're A Womble on TOTP, did you?

Anyway, I'd go with Wellington. Boy or girl.

Indantherene · 29/07/2015 20:12

Ooo, I entered a competition to name new Wombles many many years ago, and Alderney was one of mine Grin

I think I'd go with Tobermory.

steppemum · 29/07/2015 20:36

I am with hassled - not original, doesn't count

Tobermory for me, because he was so clever, and I lurved him.

(dh is somewhat Tobermory ish now that I come to think of it...)

00100001 · 29/07/2015 21:17

What did you put in indan??

OP posts:
00100001 · 29/07/2015 21:18

Oh wait...

OP posts:
SomewhereIBelong · 29/07/2015 21:24

Tobermory - Tobes for a boy , trouble is Alderney would be shortened to Aldi - and that would not do at all......
