What is the general consensus on this name? Yay or nay and why?

I dislike it.

VixxFace · 19/07/2015 22:50

Don't like how ur sounds or looks.

VixxFace · 19/07/2015 22:50

it*

flakebaby · 19/07/2015 22:52

I like it

IHeartKingThistle · 19/07/2015 22:52

Love it.

mathanxiety · 19/07/2015 22:52

I like it a lot. I prefer it to Florence, which I think is quite frilly and fussy. It's simple and less likely to get shortened to Flo than Florence is.

I think it is its similarity to Laura and Laurel that makes me like it.

jollyjester · 19/07/2015 22:53

Knew of a girl once who had the nickname flora because she would 'spread easily' so its a nay from me

Sorry OP

chandelierswinger · 19/07/2015 22:54

Love it! DH doesn't though, so it's vetoed in my house!!

MaudeTheMopLady · 19/07/2015 23:05

Beautiful name. This would be my choice if I ever had a girl. It's just so lovely. Go for it.

Allthatnonsense · 20/07/2015 08:26

I really loved this name when I was pregnant with DD and desperately wanted it at one point. I could cope with the butter and "spreads like" association. What ruined it for me was reading an article about taking a swab of vaginal flora. That was it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/07/2015 08:32

Love it, one of my favourite girls names.

Pinksuitcase · 20/07/2015 08:32

Love it, have a 2 yr old one! It's a great name!

GotTheKey · 20/07/2015 08:38

Love it!

Ilovenannyplum · 20/07/2015 08:43

I really like it OP, think it's really pretty

BigRedBall · 20/07/2015 08:44

If you know your child will have the confidence to pull it off then go for it. But there's a girl in my Dd's school called Flora and she's always being called flora butter or the like.

ShadowFire · 20/07/2015 08:45

I just can't get over the margarine connection.

FusionChefGeoff · 20/07/2015 08:52

How about officially Florence but shortened? Then she can choose the longer version if she wants to later on.

silverglitterpisser · 20/07/2015 08:53

It's a margarine. I wouldn't.

Bonsoir · 20/07/2015 08:54

My DD is Flora. It's a great name that travels really well.

Cloggal · 20/07/2015 08:58

Love it, and in Scotland has other associations (flora macdonald!)

reuset · 20/07/2015 09:30

Yes, like it.

People who use misogynistic terms like 'spreads like' must (I hope) be few and far between and wouldn't be worth a thought.

littlejohnnydory · 21/07/2015 22:50

I have one. She's lovely and it suits her. It's always been my favourite girls' name and I'm so glad I put the margarine out of my mind and used it (the only person who has mentioned margarine is my mum!)...I didn't know about the "spreads easily" thing until after she was born but either nobody else knows either or they're too polite to say so. Either way, I don't think her generation will have seen that advert so who cares? It's a lovely name and my dd thinks it makes her a flower fairy! We did call her Flo as a baby but she has been very clear now that "I don't yike dat Flo name. Am Flora."

mathanxiety · 23/07/2015 22:37

I agree, Reuset.

helentheheron · 23/07/2015 22:49

Love it.

Also love Flory (pronounced to rhyme with lorry. I think its Romanian)

scribblegirl · 23/07/2015 22:50

Adore it. Would use it if my name wasn't Laura!
