To Charlotte or not to Charlotte?

We are having baby number 3 and had the name Charlotte picked out all the way back in 2007 for baby number 1.
We want to call this one Charlotte but what with the princess and all are we silly to do that?
The in laws came today and asked about names - we are keeping it a secret till the birth - and said 'well you can't use Charlotte'.
No one knows it was on a our list way back when.

what to do?
Is everyone going to think we use that name cos of the Royals? will everyone in her class be a Charlotte?

I wouldn't assume anyone had used a name because of the Royals. I'd think they liked the name and it was probably a coincidence.

If the new Royal baby was called, for example, Princess Daytona, then it might be as well to change any plans you had to call your own daughter Daytona.

As Charlotte is a perennially popular classic name, there is no problem.

I wouldn't think that you'd used it because of the Royals, it's a classic name that has been popular for a while.

Charlotte was on my list, I love the nickname lottie for young kids and Charlotte as they mature.

If Charlotte is the name you love then go for it, I think it's popular not just because of the royals but because classic names are coming back in fashion.

You could also find that not many people will go with Charlotte because they worry it is 'too popular' because of the royals.

Realistically you only risk a lot of charlottes through primary school as secondary school classes are so much bigger and they are mixed up each subject.

Charlotte is beautiful, i wouldnt be put off by people thinking you were copying the royals. However i do love some of the royal names so maybe I'm biased

Charlotte is a beautiful name. Only didn't use it for DD as was the name of ex (who broke my heart)'s new girlfriend, who to add insult to injury was lovely and beautiful herself.

Its a timeless enough name not to be confused with the princess.

It's already a well loved and classic name, it wouldn't occur to me that you'd used it because of the princess.

I am struggling with this question also. My OH is rooting for Charlotte and it is high on my list but I worry by the time she's at school there will be 5 in every class because of the princess... My name is very common and any group of women my age always has several and it can be annoying...

It's been a really popular name for decades now so I don't think the royal Charlotte will make much difference to its popularity for positive or negative.

I might be wrong, but I think the popularity of George declined when the prince was born. If you love it you should go for it

I associate it now with a friend of mine who is a little crazy, a little neurotic and completely lovely. Not the baby princess.

I don't think she'd be one of lots in her class. It's well known but not a commonly used name I don't think.
