What do you all think? I love this, think it's very elegant, but are we brave enough? And what could you shorten it to?

Wasn't Loveday an antiques dealer in Cambridge?

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2015 18:57

YY my first thought was a sex shop. And a bit like Lovejoy.

DoesItReallyMatter · 16/07/2015 19:02

I know a 20 year old Loveday, I still find it a bit of an odd name as it doesn't really sound like a name as it a it abrupt sounding.

4EverScottish · 16/07/2015 19:06

Oh yes, Lovejoy was the dodgy arts and antique dealer.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/07/2015 19:16

It's lovely!

truthaboutlove · 16/07/2015 19:27

My first reaction was to laugh. But it's growing on me.

Solasum · 16/07/2015 19:28

I really like it, and would definitsluan consider it for a DD

chocfireguard · 16/07/2015 20:20

Reminds me of Lovelace, as in Linda...

EmmaWoodlouse · 16/07/2015 20:48

I want to like it, it sounds pretty, but the only one I've ever met was quite irritating!

Sophronia · 16/07/2015 21:28

I love it! I know someone who has this as a middle name.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 16/07/2015 21:59

Dreadful.

silverglitterpisser · 16/07/2015 22:01

Beyond ridiculous. No.

Katymac · 16/07/2015 22:02

With a middlename of Minette?

From my favourite book Wink

TinyManticore · 16/07/2015 22:02

Bloody awful. It sounds like an explanation for the child's existence. 'Well, it was Loveday, and we got carried away..'

Colyngbourne · 16/07/2015 22:22

Loveday was the name of a female character in The Little White Horse - set in Cornwall.

BothEndsBurning · 17/07/2015 00:05

I have heard that quite a number of people were named Loveday, having been born in the old Birmingham Maternity Hospital which was in Loveday Street.

reuset · 17/07/2015 10:57

The Cornish purists (if they come along that is Grin) would do well to remember that before use in Cornwall it was commonly used outside of Cornwall too.

So, yes you can and should use it. Though some people might only have heard it as a surname, unless they've read Little White Horse!

Tattiesthroughthebree · 17/07/2015 16:09

I've only come across it used as a middle name in RL, and I think it's an awesome middle name.

MarjorieWinklepicker · 17/07/2015 16:22

The only one I know is the leader of the Cornish political party Mebyon Kernow, I've certainly never met a child with the name.

I'm Cornish and I don't like it I'm afraid.

Generalconstant · 17/07/2015 16:28

I love it but DH didn't.

Sophronia · 17/07/2015 16:47

It's a medieval form of the Old English name L?ofdæg, literally "beloved day"

albertcampionscat · 17/07/2015 17:12

I love it, but it's definitely a name that needs a conventional middle name for the kid to use instead if they want.

buntingbingo · 17/07/2015 20:16

I do love it but, especially after reading your comments, I'm not brave enough. I'd hate to give my child a name and every time I tell someone or call her be waiting for the shocked faces or sniggers.

Back to the drawing board.

My favourite ever girls name. DH said a big fat no though so I didn't. Still regret it now. Definitely a marmite name m

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 19/07/2015 23:25

Nooooo to Loveday as a first name. But great as an interesting middle name.
