We calked our cat Stella who sadly died 3 years ago. Problem being we adore the name and are now expecting!! Can we use it for a girl? Blush

Some people need to understand that this is not about naming the child "after" a dead cat.

The cat was called Stella because they liked the name. OP wants to call her daughter Stella for the same reason - because they like the name.

We struggled to think of a name we both loved for DD2.
The only one we liked was also the name of our beloved but departed cat.

So we thought -sod it.

Clementine shares her name with her late catty Brother (gender confused when kitten). He was cool!

I don't consider we named her after him, its just a lovely name.

My friend names her son after her late horse. I am sure your dead cat would be honoured :-)

Sorry late cat!

Babies are named after " dead" relatives all the time, sometimes named after people, more for tradition than real connection to the namesake. To a lot of people, a pet isn't just an animal but a beloved part of the family. I would quite happily name a child after one of my pets ( dead or alive) as they have gorgeous names as well as possessing a pure love and kindness that makes for a great aspirational namesake. Quite frankly, the only people that would have an issue with it, are those that believe animals are lesser than them. So why would the opinion of someone with that mentality matter? Also at the end of the day, it's your child not theirs! :)
