Baby girl due in 4 weeks so working on a shortlist! Middle name will probably be Rose or Grace. What's people's opinions?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How can a name be wishy washy? There are so many names these days compared to my generation that I'm not sure dated will be such an issue. I don't think my DD's name's either wishy washy or will date can you tell posters have hit a raw nerve My preference is Esme. Stunningly beautiful Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 04/07/2015 14:40

I love Esme - very strong.
I also like Eris as a powerful alternative to Erin.

CakeRattleandRoll · 04/07/2015 18:26

Definitely Esme.

needmorespace · 04/07/2015 19:47

Esme
Feel meh about the other two names

itsnothingoriginal · 04/07/2015 20:47

I do like all your names but they are all popular - Erin increasingly so around here as I know at least 5 little Erin's!

My personal favourite is probably Freya.

Some others that may be in a similar vein:

Estelle
Frances
Erica
Elodie

Eris is pretty as suggested above - never heard that before

VenusVanDamme · 04/07/2015 20:50

Erin, lovely name.

Treesandbees · 04/07/2015 21:12

Curious to know where people are when they say Erin is popular? Haven't heard many here!

We're in the South West treesandbees

Is definitely on the rise here but it shouldn't matter if you love it!

Esmesgirls · 04/07/2015 21:27

I'm an Esme! I pronounce it Es-me, which is the nicest way, I think!

FraggleHair · 04/07/2015 21:35

Laughing at the idea of Erin being a classic name! Erin was a name made up by sentimental Irish Americans, similar to Colleen. It's also a brand of powdered soups in Ireland. So it's a no from me for Erin.

Freya and Esme are both nice names. I'd favour the es-may pronunciation.

barbecue · 04/07/2015 21:45

Yes, Erin is made up, but it's nicer than Freya and Esme IMHO.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/07/2015 21:49

I love Freya and Esme.
Not so keen on Erin.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2015 22:19

All ridiculously 2015 and popular. Of all the baby girls I know born in the year, half are Erin, Esme or Freya

Not for me.

Dreya · 04/07/2015 22:47

Esme is okay, but just sounds like a nickname for Esmerelda to me which I'm er, not so keen on. Erin is fine. Freya on the otherhand is a really pretty name. Go with Freya Smile

Treesandbees · 04/07/2015 22:47

I think it must really depend where you are. We're South West too but all the babies here have been really old school names like Winnie, Bonnie, Dotty etc or Evie/Eva/Ava! Have only met one Erin and I'm on the 'baby circuit' as have a DS already.

bluechameleon · 04/07/2015 22:52

I like Freya and Esme, not so keen on Erin

Eminado · 04/07/2015 22:59

Erin Grace

Allalonenow · 04/07/2015 23:02

Freya.
Not keen on the others.

R00tat00tt00t · 04/07/2015 23:02

Quite like them all as all pretty names and unlikely to be shortened either. Esme's my favourite of the 3 though - pronounced Es-me. What about Isla, Orla, Faith, Robin/yn?

Y0la · 04/07/2015 23:42

What about Merrin OP?

Ham69 · 05/07/2015 00:29

All ridiculously 2015

Hmm Biscuit

madmother1 · 05/07/2015 00:57

I've got an Erin. Circa 2000. The only one in her school! Just be insistent on how it's said. Many teachers used to say Eran. I had to say it rhymes with sucking air in. I remember cringing with the swimming instructor shouting it out wrongly. It's a lovely name.

overthemill · 05/07/2015 01:05

None of them! There will be tons of them at school...
I regret DS's Middle name of Esme which is after her grandmother and we knew no one with it so thought it a nice tribute ( and I always liked the Salinger novel) but within a year there were tons of them all spelled wrong and pronounced wrong. So I would try to go for something else. It's awful being called Esme A or Esme S or whatever as thee are so many in the class!!!

NadiaWadia · 05/07/2015 02:30

Sorry but I'm not massively keen on any of them, although I don't hate them, either. Erin just makes me think of the Waltons, and I'm never sure how to pronounce Esme. I'd choose Freya out of these three.

FraggleHair · 05/07/2015 02:35

Why would you regret a middle name though, especially as she was named after her grandmother? That sounds a bit cold.
