Diana or Grace?!

The final list:
Diana
Grace

Dd is expected to arrive the 16 of July and we have no clue which name to choose. We have no problems with either name. DH prefers Grace and is constantly referring to dd as Gracie already. I love the name as well, but I can't let Diana go, it's underused and beautiful, and I've always liked it. However, I do think Grace sounds better with ds(s) names, Ezra and Sasha. Surname is one syllable and begins with an F. When asked, E preferred Grace but S preferred Diana.

Middle names are family names and she will either be Grace Aurelia or Diana Mirielle.

I much prefer Grace with your other children's names. Grace Aurelia is lovely.

Whichever you choose, could you add the name you don't pick as a second middle name so you don't have to let it go completely? Grace Aurelia Diana F sounds great, or Diana Grace Mirielle F

Grace was a princess too, don't forget! And an equally iconic fashion idol. I do think Grace is lovely but way too popular at the moment.

Yes, but the difference is that Grace was, and is, hugely popular anyway. Diana has never been in the top fifty. Ever! Nor is it likely to be. So more connected with Princess Diana.

Was Diana really a fashion icon?

Definitely Diana. Sophisticated.

CardinalRed · 05/07/2015 19:22

Definitely Grace.
Lovely, sophisticated and positive connotations.
Also elegant for an adult and sweet for a young girl, plus a cute nickname with Gracie

Wafflenose · 05/07/2015 20:38

Diana. Underused and beautiful.

RiverTam · 05/07/2015 20:39

Diana.

I always think Grace is such a harsh sounding name.

Zakken · 05/07/2015 21:21

Diana is elegant, classical, timeless. Never been in fashion, never been out.

Some iconic and glamorous women have worn this name - not just Spencer, there's Ross and Rigg to name two. But most people won't know a Diana personally.

It really doesn't matter if it "goes with" the names of your other children. It's not incongruous in the slightest, but this should be the least of your concerns. Goes well with a one-syllable surname, which matters more IMO.

Hassled · 05/07/2015 21:22

I like them both lots but Diana tops it.

Zakken · 05/07/2015 21:31

I do like Grace, but its popularity means it's going to date very badly. It'll be regarded as a frumpy old lady name at some stage (which it was, rather, when I was young). Diana has always dodged this bullet.

reuset · 05/07/2015 22:41

Diane, it being a version of Diana, or vice versa if you like, is what dates it for me. Diane was a '60s (ish) name. Top 10. Both nick named Di. Di!

Grace Kelly is good. Grace Poole is bad.

Zakken · 05/07/2015 23:09

Diane for me has a completely different vibe from Diana.

bump
As I know you live in NYC, op, I will say Grace. It's not as popular of a name there as in the UK (in the US I believe it's right under the 20% maybe check SSA for your state)
I love Grace Aurelia and the nn Gracie.
Diana I like but it also feels a bit off to me. Hmm

Onecurrantbun · 16/07/2015 20:38

My middle name is Diana "Oh, after the Princess?" No you fucker, after the goddess. Honestly I think it is still too connected to her.

I was born then year after Prince Harry, though - so maybe that's why people assume - because she was, like, super-duper current in the 80s.

CruCru · 17/07/2015 22:48

I like Diana. You never heard it whereas I'm always hearing Grace. Also, Grace is an ugly sound when bellowed in my accent .
