I like it. I think it's a good name for a 30ish year old.

What does a lower class name mean?
Does it mean it is no longer popular or not the name is not used by rich families or only poorer people use the name or other meaning?
Thanks

'Lower class name' is quite a contentious issue. In practice it could be used to categorise names that are associated with a poorer demographic. It's quite subjective really as I wouldn't judge anyone based on their name.

Put it this way, there are people called Catherine who might very well have had to scrimp and save all their lives just to attain the basics of bread and water, and there are Catherines who are members of the royal family. It's a slippery slope when we start assigning names to social class.

I think it is a fine name. I know why many Chinese people choose western names and I would probably change mine if I lived in China for any length of time. I would choose a name that sounded a bit like my western name if possible so that I could get used to it quickly.

Jason is quite popular for Chinese boys and men who come to the UK to study and it goes will with lots of Chinese surnames.

I would choose a more classic name and not Jason, as everyone says, it is synonymous with the 70s. My brother is a Jason coincidentally but also goes by Jay. My son is James, much better in my opinion!

I know a Chinese man called Justin which I think suits him. I prefer that.

It's quite nice. There are some cool Jasons, e.g. Jason Isaacs.

Yes, I was going to mention Jason Isaacs. Very popular actor.

People really need to let go of this "oh it's so dated" thing. This is not about naming a baby. Jason is a name that is quite consistent with the OP's age.

I automatically think of Jason Donovan Grin (1980s Australian soap actor)

Op, it's a perfectly good name especially for your age group. I quite like it come to think of it.

I think, given your age, that it would be a good fit. Jason is not a name that is particularly common for little boys nowadays, but in the 1970s and 1980s it was quite popular.

I was at Uni with Jason Isaacs :)

Oh I love Jason Isaacs!

I like it!

Some bright spark says "Jason is dated" but you are 33! I think it's a very good choice. If I were changing my name as an adult I would want to pick something credible, nothing too flashy.

for someone your age it is fine.

emjan ignore that nonsense about it being a lower class name. It isn't. It's a perfectly normal name for a man in his 30s.

Nice name, and suits your age.

I hope you don't mind me saying that when Bruce Jenner changed his name (after changing gender) the choice of name jars with me because its not a name that was in popular usage in america in the 1940s. I bet there are very, very few Caitlins in America aged sixty. You'd struggle to find one over 40. So, maybe I analyse these things too much but imo a choice like hazel or sylvia, a name that is coming back in to fashion but wasn't totally out of usage in the 1940s would have been a better choice. But perhaps it doesn't matter! Everybody knows Caitlin Jenner was called Bruce first!

I really like the name Jason, I had it on our list. It's more usual amongst 30 and 40 somethings but I do know a child.

I can't believe people still buy into that 'it's a lower class name' rubbish.

Jason Orange, Jason Donovan...

What is your Chinese name OP?

I think the most important thing is that YOU like Jason.
It's a nice name, IMO and suitable for a guy your age.

I live in China and a lot of Chinese guys choose the name Jason.

Does it sound like your Chinese name? Tell us what it is, or what it sounds like (Jie? Jun? Wild guesses!) and we could help you think of another one?

Or stick with Jason if you like it. It's a decent name.

No problem CaoNiMa, I know what it means but not offended.

I don't like my Chinese name, it does not sound good and hard to pronounce in Chinese too, I would prefer not to disclose it, and don't intend to find any English name similar to the Chinese name.

Can you share what are the popular Chinese guys English name in China? Thanks.
