Do you like it? OH not at all sure, I think it's lovely. I know it's probably a bit love or hate, but any thoughts? Thanks

Like it :-)

Allalonenow · 23/06/2015 09:26

Absolutely love it!

Ziglinda · 23/06/2015 09:29

Always makes me think of fester.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 23/06/2015 09:29

This was the name of a teacher of mine and I always thought it didn't seem like a proper name. I don't hate it but it does still seem a bit made up to me.

Delilahfandango · 23/06/2015 09:29

Like it a lot. I really like Nesta as well!

Cloggal · 23/06/2015 09:30

Can't explain why, there's no good reason, but much, much prefer Esther. Softer somehow? Maybe if your OH isn't sold he would go for that?

PennilynLott · 23/06/2015 09:31

DH loves it and I hate it. It sounds like a witch.

MarchLikeAnAnt · 23/06/2015 09:33

I don't like it at all.

twirlypoo · 23/06/2015 09:34

I'm really sorry but Hester, Esther, fester etc all sound like witches to me.

I know of a little Esther too, and I always struggle with it (totally my issue!)

Earthbound · 23/06/2015 09:36

I'm not keen. It sounds a bit fussy and old to me. I much prefer Esther-much softer.

SanityClause · 23/06/2015 09:37

Lovely. Ignore all the haterz Wink.

Laquila · 23/06/2015 09:38

Love it!! It's gorgeous

Plateofcrumbs · 23/06/2015 09:39

Thumbs up!

Greymalkin · 23/06/2015 09:45

I love it. Hester is the name of Lee Scoresby's hare shaped daemon in Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy. Hester is wise, loyal and utterly devoted to Lee. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!

Also the surname of one of team GBs gold medal winning dressage riders.

littlebeps · 23/06/2015 09:47

Lovely, was on my shortlist

CillaAndArchie · 23/06/2015 09:48

Love it. Brilliant name.

There's some spooky classic children's book with a Hester in it (a ghost girl, perhaps??). Anyone remember what the book is?

Fleecyleesy · 23/06/2015 09:58

I personally don't like the sound of it.

There is a reason why it is not more popular than it is. I have not ever met a child called this and would associate it with an old battleaxe.

Sophronia · 23/06/2015 11:16

I prefer Esther.

Ludways · 23/06/2015 11:33

I prefer Ester too, seems easier to say somehow. Hester reminds me of Fresh Fields, a tv sit com from the 80's, was my Gran's favourite show, lol

florascotia · 23/06/2015 11:55

I really like Hester - simple and elegant.

Cilla Your book perhaps sounds a bit like Lucy M Boston's 'The Children of Green Knowe' (about a benevolently haunted house)
or there is Twin Spell, by Janet Lunn (about a haunted doll)

Zakken · 23/06/2015 11:55

I've been trying to figure out why I don't like Hester, because I do like Esther. I think it's because it sounds a bit like hesitate or hesitant.

It also sounds to me like someone who normally drops their aitches who is trying to sound posh while saying Esther. That's completely illogical, because you could make the reverse argument about Esther. I guess I knew the name Esther before I ever encountered Hester.

GladysTheGolem · 23/06/2015 11:58

I don't like but I don't really know why.

It's a bit like Dorcas, interesting name but just clunky(?) if that makes sense!

OurGlass · 23/06/2015 11:59

Cringe - sorry

MrsBungle · 23/06/2015 12:05

I don't like it. Not Esther. They remind me of fester and sound unpleasant to me.

MrsBungle · 23/06/2015 12:05

Not Esther either that is supposed to say.
