I am expecting my second girl and struggling with names
I have a Scarlett who also has 2 other Scarletts in her class. Looking to avoid this but not too out there either
This is what I have so far ;

Gretel
Winnie
Edie
Jemima
Hettie

Thoughts?

I like Edie and Jemima.

Really dislike Gretel

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 22/06/2015 12:54

Like Winnie!

How about Claudia/Enid/Heidi/Daphne?

Sophronia · 22/06/2015 13:00

I like Jemima, and Gretel is ok, although I prefer Greta. Winnie, Edie and Hettie I prefer short for Winifred, Edith and Henrietta.

LovelyMummyNo1 · 22/06/2015 13:55

I like Jemima! Not sure about Gretel...

fellowship33 · 22/06/2015 13:58

There's a few Edies in dd's school so I might avoid that. Love Hettie - short for Harriet? Winnie is awful, as is Gretel.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 14:02

The one in the middle, Edie.

Gretel and Winnie are seriously bad.

manicinsomniac · 22/06/2015 14:03

I love Jemima

Quite like Edie (though I'd christen Edith) and Gretel

Don't like Winnie or Hettie at all.

reuset · 22/06/2015 14:09

Good list.

Jemima wins for me. Quite a timeless name.

Also like Hettie if short for Henrietta or Esther

RiverTam · 22/06/2015 14:10

Edit best. Winnie awful. Rest OK.

reuset · 22/06/2015 14:10

Gretel is nice but feels like a little girl name.

Beccabooboo · 22/06/2015 14:13

Thanks guys. I think I am more confused than ever. My haves were Gretel and Winnie but I realise these are are seriously marmite! Only know if one Edie around here but am guessing will gain more popularity. Think I am leaning towards Jemima.

Yes rueset, I think of the cute little Gretel in the sound of music! Maybe not so much when she is older.

Love Gretel such a beautiful name

ashesandfire · 22/06/2015 16:15

Edie or Jemima

florascotia · 22/06/2015 16:35

I really like Jemima.

Gretel was traditionally a diminutive of Grete, which was a short form of Margaret. As Reuset says, it's traditionally cute and little girly - rather like Rosie compared with the plainer, more adult, Rose.

I know of more than one little Edie. For that, and for Winnie and Hettie, I prefer full names, rather than rather babyish short forms.

2Blessed0301 · 22/06/2015 16:48

Winnie. what about Hattie?

PallasCat · 22/06/2015 17:57

Totally agree with Sophronia - some really lovely names but I would suggest the long forms for bc, and short forms for known names.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/06/2015 18:35

Love Edie.

Kitsmummy · 22/06/2015 18:40

Love edie, Jemima and poss hettie

Hate hate hate Winnie

How about romilly or ottilie?

Beccabooboo · 22/06/2015 19:03

DS has a friend called Winnie, I love her name! I think Hattie is more traditional as a nn for Harriet, but Hettie is fab too. Great choices, OP!

00100001 · 22/06/2015 22:28

Edie :)

Cric · 22/06/2015 22:38

Love Winnie!!!

Yellowbird01 · 22/06/2015 23:26

Jemima alice is good

CakeRattleandRoll · 23/06/2015 05:46

I like Hettie as a nn for Hester or Henrietta.
