I would think the parents watched too much TV. It sounds like a character name, not a rl name.

parabelle · 21/06/2015 16:51

Emma Bunton has a son called Tate. Makes me think of Tate Donovan.

MamaLazarou · 21/06/2015 17:09

I don't see why the American Horror Story association should be a bad thing. Tate is a great character. I love the name.

One of the brightest boys I know is called Tate - he's perhaps 11, so well before any AHS associations!

pieceofpurplesky · 21/06/2015 18:25

I love it despite the American Horror Story connection. He's a character in a TV show not real.

MamaLazarou · 21/06/2015 19:28

But an adorable rapist, school-shooting ghost.

ToomuchChocolatemeansBootcamp · 21/06/2015 19:32

I think it's very American - isn't Aidens baby that he's carrying in a sling when he bumps into Carrie on the street called Tate? Also makes me think of potato, as they are often called "taters" where I come from.

So it would be a no from me..

TopCivilServant · 21/06/2015 19:33

Don't like it... Sorry.. One of those American sounding surname names like Heath and Harrison. Sounds like something inspired by TV

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/06/2015 19:34

Don't like it at all, sorry.

fanjodisfunction · 21/06/2015 20:04

I like it, know of a little boy called Tate. it's unusual but not unheard of.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 21/06/2015 20:06

I know a baby boy called Tate and I always think of the art gallery. I'm not mad about it but it's not the worst I've heard

Rhubarbgarden · 21/06/2015 20:47

Tate will date

NinjaLeprechaun · 21/06/2015 23:48

I've always really liked the name. My sister's best-friend-from-childhood has an older brother named Tate. I'm in the US, if that makes a difference to you.

SoldierBear · 22/06/2015 05:33

Don't like it.
Sounds a lot like "tat".
And it's a surname.

museumum · 22/06/2015 09:32

I thought "girl" when I read it - mainly because Americans often use surnames as girls name. I think it's like Brodie or Kenzie etc.

FishCanFly · 22/06/2015 10:18

Awful. Sorry

Smugnogplease · 22/06/2015 10:28

Horrid sorry

backtoworkblues · 22/06/2015 10:46

Had to post as my 7 month old son is called Tate. Stating the obvious I love the name and can't imagine him being called anything else. It will suit him no matter what his age and will never be overly popular. Of course there is the Tate and Lyle association but I think that's great (Sir Henry Tate was the owner of the sugar company and later a philanthropist who became the namesake of the Tate Britain). Smile

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/06/2015 11:03

He sounds like a great namesake backtowork!

CrispyFern · 22/06/2015 11:09

I quite like it!

EmmaWoodlouse · 22/06/2015 20:58

It's not really my cup of tea (like many surnames as first names) but it's not awful. It fits in well with those sort of short, dynamic names like Kyle, Finn, Jake etc. I used to have an online friend in America whose son's full name was Taylor and they called him Tate.

Ragusa · 22/06/2015 21:15

Personally not keen and it could sound awful in local accent depending on where you live
I agree with whoever said it sounds a bit try-hard, which as we all know is the ultimate mumsnet sin Grin

Alyx80 · 22/06/2015 21:55

I have a Tate so obviously I love it!
