strong short girls names?

mrstothemr · 20/06/2015 19:52

We like Eva and Ada, and also names that are slightly longer like Morgan. It should be recognisable as a girls name, with no need for spelling every time, but hopefully not so of the moment that we end up knowing five of them in a couple of years.

Anyone got any ideas? Can have an American bent but not be too outlandish for my English family's ears

I quite like emme, thanks, but our surname is quite vowel heavy so it doesn't really flow

What about Beth? I think it is a lovely name and it is short and strong in my opinion. You could have a longer version Bethan or Bethany or evenElizabeth but I think it works beautifully on its own.

Other short girls names I like: Mary, Anna, Kay, Elle, Grace, Kate.

Rose was vetoed by dh, and Mia we both love but seems to be massively popular right now?

We know a Bethany, it's very pretty, but ella might be lovely

ONS baby names

I think Mia is actually less popular than Eva. I know lots of preschool kids and only one Mia and she's a Mia Flora = My Flower. If you both love it, go for it!

Kate

And if you're feeling very brave...Doris. You wouldn't ever have messed with any of the Dorises I knew.

wonderpants · 20/06/2015 20:52

Ruth- I love this, feels solid and dependable!

drinkscabinet · 20/06/2015 20:54

I'm of the opinion that names that end in 'y' or 'ie' are never strong and names that end in 'a' rarely are (although I love names ending in 'a', DD1 has three of them!)

How about:
Jean
Anne
Bridget
Eleanor
Short forms of Catherine are good Kate/Cat etc
Ditto short forms of Elizabeth, agree about Beth especially

Olive

Fettuccinecarbonara · 20/06/2015 20:56
