Is George 'Posh'

TravellingToad · 13/06/2015 21:02

DH refuses to consider George because it's "posh"

We already have Henry & James, to put this in context.

Is George posh (or posher than H&J?) all...vote... NOW!

(thank you)

No George isn't posh. Henry is no longer really posh either as it's very popular everywhere now

ShadowFire · 14/06/2015 00:37

George the steamroller is a very minor character in Thomas and Friends. I've read one book with George the steamroller in, but I can't remember seeing George in any of the episodes. (DC are big Thomas fans)

Anyway, Henry, James and George are all past kings of England, so I expect plenty of people will pick up on that rather than Thomas the Tank Engine.

CakeRattleandRoll · 14/06/2015 03:35

Agree with PPs that Henry is posher than George, but all 3 names really fit best in the "timeless, ageless, classless" category.

Canyouforgiveher · 14/06/2015 03:49

I kind of agree that Henry is a bit posher than George (not sure why though) but I have uncles and cousins called George, Henry, James, Thomas etc and I am not from a posh background and am Irish. Classic normal names I would have thought rather than posh.

Etihad · 14/06/2015 04:55

I also don't think George is any posher than James or Henry - and it's a lovely name. But the first thing I thought of when I saw the three names together was, unfortunately, the range of Nuumatic vacuum cleaners.

Bjn765 · 14/06/2015 05:00

I've never thought of George as posh! Strange your husband thinks this if you already have a Henry!

Frenchmustard7 · 14/06/2015 05:02

George is less posh then Henry or James. It's quite middle class.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 14/06/2015 05:10

Two of those are my son's name and the third will be next son's name Smile so I think they go very well together

CheerfulYank · 14/06/2015 05:13

I think they're all the same level of poshness but I'm American and what do I know Wink

Frenchmustard7 · 14/06/2015 05:30

Henry is more like rupert. George is more like Alex

LarrytheCucumber · 14/06/2015 13:42

None of them are 'posh' at all.

LynetteScavo · 14/06/2015 13:58

I think Henry is slightly posher than George.

George goes really, really well with Henry and James.

So do;

Oliver
William
Charles

But George is the nicest. Smile

Wishful80smontage · 14/06/2015 14:52

I see them all as 'classic' names think they are the same level

Wishful80smontage · 14/06/2015 15:05

Meant to add think they sound lovely as a sibling set :)

SillyStuffBiting · 14/06/2015 15:09

Yup, they go great together!

Grin George is definitely not posh. (uncle and cousin named George) neither is James (Dad, stepdad, grandad, brother,)
not met a Henry yet though so I say that's the poshest.

reuset · 14/06/2015 15:58

No, not posh. It's one of those great classless names. Try guessing the social class of a George or a James...impossible. He could be working, middle or upper class.

LarrytheCucumber · 14/06/2015 17:21

When I was growing up 'enry was definitely a working class name, as in the boxer 'enry Cooper. Another example of names going up and down the social scale, I suppose.

Cliffdiver · 15/06/2015 14:08

It's the clothing department of Asda, so no, not terribly posh Grin

Agree with PPs who say it is 'less posh' that Henry though.

I like Gerorge, DD1 would have been George. It goes very well with your other DS names.

squoosh · 15/06/2015 15:03

George is an everyman name. Like Daniel or James.

squoosh · 15/06/2015 15:03

Henry is definitely posher than George, so not sure of your DH's logic.

Roseotto · 15/06/2015 23:36

My east end grandad was George, so I say no. Just a good solid name :)

GotTheKey · 16/06/2015 12:32

They are all strong, well known boys names. Not posh, but nice names!
