Mad- eline/aline/elyn/eleine/aleiene etc

Can someone explain to me the differences between Madeline, Madaline, Madelyn, Madeleine etc in terms of pronunciation and usage?

I have only ever known Madeline (pronounced Mad-uh-lin) but I have been told this is American/wrong, and I recently met a young girl names Madeleine (pronounced Mad-uh-lane). I was wondering what is considered correct or what is common in your areas?

I'm not having a baby, by the way, this is just idle curiosity.

Madeleine is the French verion of the name.
The English version was traditionally Magdalene or Magdalen.

However, there are dozens of different versions from many different countries.

In English I would pronounce them all Mad-uh-lin, but Madeleine is originally French and the 'lane' pronunciation is closer to that if that makes sense.
The spelling Madeleine is the original too (I think). Hoping a French MNer can make more sense of that than me :)
