Linnet is that your real name or are you just a singer?

sweetkitty · 13/11/2006 21:51

boy would be Elliot

girl I haven't a clue I like Leona and Serena

allybaba · 13/11/2006 22:02

I know this isn't helpful but i once had a hamster named Mabel!!
When i was pg with my dd we had Eleanor, Evie, Sophie, Lauren, Amy and Beth for a girl.
Joseph, Charlie, George or Ben for a boy.

I'm not really keen on any of your names but then if we all liked the same names there wouldn't be much variation.

cece · 13/11/2006 22:07

Do like your thinking Clara

How about

Seth
Absolem(sp)
Sydney

Cora
Althea
Esme
Esther
Audrey

MamaApronstrings · 13/11/2006 22:10

cordelia is beautiful.

Clara was a close second to the name we actually gave our number 4.
Aslo very fond of Francis and Lilou (french)

MamaApronstrings · 13/11/2006 22:10

obviously Frances

Ilovemyboy · 13/11/2006 22:12

I am pregnant at the moment.

My DS will be called George Lucian.

My girl's name was to be Scarlett Rose. Will save that for if little George ever has a sister.

TwoIfBySea · 13/11/2006 22:51

Ilovemyboy I love the name Scarlett! Couldn't use it as it would sound ugly with our surname.

Clarahj, like Cordelia, Nora, Iris but not any of your boys names. What about another girls name Cosima?

I haven't made any name lists in so long. We are hoping to try for another baby next year so it will be one of the first things I do with probably much input from dts!

I've always like Mercedes as it has always meant Spain to me but it would mean the car here! I'll do my research on Behind The Name.

Smurfgirl · 13/11/2006 23:26

We were just talking about this.

We like Poppy, Caitlin and Amy for a girl I want her middle name to be Honey which is tacky but I love it. And Thomas, Matthew, Jack or Ellis for a boy.

Not TTCing for 2/3 years so bit of a wait yet

dmo · 14/11/2006 09:22

dont do Nora reminds me of nitty Nora

i like
fred or freddy for a boy
and
madeline for a girl (but not maddy)

dmo · 14/11/2006 09:23

ilovemyboy

do you like star wars by chance

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 14/11/2006 09:41

I also love Honey in all its tacky pornstarishness . We called our first child Baby for her first 2 years so I thought let's just cut out the middle man next time and name another dd Honey. He was a boy though (Noah).

cece - i like all of your names except Sydney and Esme. i especially like Cora, Althea and Audrey - but i have a suspicion there may be a boom in Audreys.

Love Clara

Hi there

If I have another dd she'll be

Violet Elfie
Violet Faerydae (dark child - gift of the fairies)
Violet Wren
or Violet Lark - fancy a bird name as a middle name

or
Pearl Lark
Pearl Eglantine
Pearl Daisy
Pearl Emmeline

What do you think?

hushshessleeping · 15/11/2006 00:47

Quite like the name Dahlia now, particularly after the film black Dahlia, seems more mysterious.....

clarahj · 15/11/2006 09:21

Hushshessleeping - I love the naem Pearl - it is my dd2's name. Of your combos i like Pearl Emmeline. I love the name Pearl - it always gets a surprised reaction - it seems no-one expects you to name your child Pearl nowadays.
I also love the name Violet - i like Lark the best with this. Out of interest what is your dd1 called?
Also like Dahlia - haven't seen the film though.
I like Magnolia nn Maggie or Nora - that is on my list - do you like that?

love Clara

I prefer Dora to Nora, more romantic and latinate, like Isadora Duncan. I just keep remembering how Wally Batty used to pronounce Nora Nor-ggghghghga in Last of the Summer Wine .

Ilovemyboy · 15/11/2006 11:45

dmo - LOL! It sounds a bit like George Lucas doesn't it? But no...he isn't named after him.

We wanted something a bit different as his middle name but couldn't think of anything other than Lucian that we REALLY liked. It was really hard to come up with boy's names. We'll be screwed if we have another DS.

mummydoc · 15/11/2006 12:17

iovemyboy, don't laugh but when i was pregnant with dd1 star wars 1 came out and i was very taken wiht the idea of naming hte baby Anakin skywalker.....lets just say i htink it was hormonal overdirve and luckily it was a girl!!!!!

Ilovemyboy · 15/11/2006 13:11

I'm surprised that more people didn't name their children after Star Wars characters.

Your little Anakin would have had a hard time at school with that name though.

paulaplumpbottom · 15/11/2006 13:13

Ava Rose

hushshessleeping · 15/11/2006 22:41

Hi Clara

I have to agree with buckets of...was going to say exactly the same thing - prefer Dora to like Isadora, isn't it funny how everone seems to get on the same names wavelength.

About my own dd's name - I don't want to spell it out as it'll give away too much, but if you're really curious, she shares her name with Stevie Wonder's mum and the younger poorer Holly Golightly. Kind of Southern Belle.

As for Magnolia, Maggie, it's funny you should mention the name as I was having a conversation about this very name this weekend with a friend from Alabama. We were talking about the prevalence of Magnolia trees in the Deep South (of the States, not the Isle of Wight!!) and their symbolism, and I suggested that some Southern Belles might be named Magnolia to honour their origins, thinking it would be quite an original name. However, would this plant be at all meaningful to you? I love the name Violet because it has important symbolism in my life. My family hail from Devon, (Devon violets) I lived in Florence, Italy for several years and 'Viola' is the Florentine colour, also spent some time in Toulouse, which I loved, again very famous for Violets. My dh is of African origin (African Violet) and I also love its historic symbolism and vintage associations. Love the colour and the scent - wear it often.

Pearl I love as a name, also because I was wearing pearls the night I met my dh!! I dunno, maybe you can find symbolism in any name you love if you try hard enough!!

hushshessleeping · 15/11/2006 22:42

I think Rose is a pretty name, but isn't it becoming rather tired as a middle name?

hushshessleeping · 15/11/2006 22:53

How about Mimosa (Mimi for sort)? or does it have negative associations. Maggie I would like, kind of countryish/folksy ( or think Gyllenhall ) if it weren't for Thatcher
