What does everyone think of Millie?

Ok. Short for something better still. Camilla, Millicent, that sort of thing

I was thinking of Millicent / Milly as that was my grandma's name but I think it's a bit too 'now' and quite a young girls, not serious enough for a grown up y'know?

I suppose Mills could be the grown-up alternative?

I agree it's better short for something else.

In Northern Ireland it was a slang name for those who worked in the linen mills. It used today as a kind of an insult for a Chav type. Probably fine if you have no connection to here.

It's very, very overused. And a bit twee. Better as a short form - I especially like Romilly, Camilla ok if a bit royal. It's a popular short form for Amelia which is madly popular.

Dislike Millicent - not a nice sound at all.

I think there are much nicer, slightly less overused names with a similar feel, such as Polly, Molly, Tilly (admit though this is very popular too!) or even Sally, Patty, Betty. Short, cute, 'ee' names.

I like it. Could be short for Matilda.

I find it really pretty and nicer than other short names like Polly, Tilly, etc.
The only thing is, I believe it would be too childish/casual for the full name, and struggle a bit with finding a long name that you can derive 'Millie' from, as 'Millicent' and especially 'Mildred' are just not that attractive.

I ended up using it for a kitten instead.

It's my DN's name so I do like it but I much prefer a full name on the birth cert.

OP The old French version of Millicent is Melisande (or Melisende), if that helps. She was a real-life medieval queen. There is also an opera about a character with that name (Debussy).

And there is the related name Melusine - who was a rather fierce water-spirit.

Lots of people use it as a nn for Amelia. I don't really like any of those cutesy name that end in an ee sound much. Amy, Eliie, Milly, Tilly, Polly, Hattie, Lily, etc etc, all sound a bit twee to me. I prefer strong sophisticated names.

To me it sounds like it should be short for something, ie I know an Amelia who gets called Millie.
Saying that I do know one who is just Millie.

It's OK but it's a bit of a 'lightweight' name or twee. Not that keen really.

I agree with it being infantile- although I do like it I couldn't imagine calling a 40 year old woman Millie.

It's rather wet, yet another ie ending name to add to all the others. It's like the first name you could think of with no effort..sorry.
