Susan as a middle?

Linguaphile · 01/06/2015 20:57

It's my mother's name, and as this is our last child and a girl, it would be nice to honor my side of the family. Is Susan truly horrible and outdated? We're thinking possibly Felicity for a first name...

If it is your mother's name and will be a middle name does it really matter? I rarely tell anyone my middle name anyway.

florascotia · 01/06/2015 21:03

Susan is fine; Susannah/Suzanne perhaps even nicer, and still a gracious link to your family.

Sophronia · 01/06/2015 21:52

Susan is a great name.

reuset · 01/06/2015 21:54

Susan is even nice as a first! So definitely for a middle.

prepperpig · 01/06/2015 21:57

1950s names are coming back

Change to Susanna

Felicity Susanna is nice

Belazu84 · 01/06/2015 22:58

My mum is Susan too. I think it's fine. But Susie and Susannah are both lovely.

carbolicsoaprocked · 01/06/2015 23:17

I would go for Susanna. We will soon have 4 generations of women/girl with different form of Jane, it's nice to have that link but also your own version of it.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/06/2015 00:46

Why not go for it as a first nsmd to honour your DM. These days Susan is certainly different. You won't get many if anymore of them in the class room.
She could opt for the nn Sue/Suzie if so wishes

TheNewStatesman · 02/06/2015 01:12

I don't like the idea of using a variation on someone's name as an honoring act, if the person is still alive; it pretty much screams "Your name sucks."

I think either use Susan as a middle name, or use something else entirely.

Most people don't really use their middle names anyway, and really, Susan is quite refreshing these days.

nooka · 02/06/2015 05:00

Felicity Susan sounds pretty good to me.

musicalendorphins2 · 02/06/2015 05:17

I like it a lot.

abram12 · 02/06/2015 06:10

Absolutely use it if it has a special significance for you and Susan is great as a mn!

Steph1502 · 02/06/2015 09:56

Lovely and personally I think middle names can be outdated. 2 of my DDs have middle names Irene and Margaret in honour of family members. It's a lovely idea xx

DramaAlpaca · 02/06/2015 10:07

Felicity Susan is lovely.

sweetpeame · 02/06/2015 13:50

It's a bit boring and certainly dated but inoffensive. As it's a middle name your DD will rarely (if ever) use it and it's lovely to honour your mum so I say go for it.

JulyKit · 02/06/2015 13:55

Susan is a lovely name - no longer in the least 'boring and dated', and well due a return!
Susan/Sue/Suzie are lovely for any age - as is Susannah (but less so Suzanne, I think).
I really like it, for a first or middle name.

sweetpeame · 02/06/2015 14:07

Well it's just my personal option that it's a bit boring and dated Grin! But I should add that Suzie is very sweet as a nn if you were to consider it as a first name.

CruCru · 02/06/2015 19:29

I think it's fine.

Marcipex · 02/06/2015 23:18

I really like Susan. It's very pretty.

Flyinggeese21 · 02/06/2015 23:31

Susan is a great middle name! (it's mine. haha)
It's also both my niece's middle name as we're all named after my mum.

MMcanny · 03/06/2015 21:50

Susan is a beautiful name, so classic.
