middle name - opinions on incorporating maiden name

We have 3 DC already and all have the names of deceased relatives as middle names, nicely balanced from all sides of the family. this was very important to DH and I and obviously means a lot to the extended family to have loved ones remembered this way.

we are now expecting DC4 and are stuck for a middle name as we have used the family names that we felt we wanted to use, there are no other candidates without offending people by using a living relative from one side but not the other IYSWIM?

If its a boy its fine as we have agreed easily to use both our fathers names. a girl is presenting more of a problem as over my dead body am I naming any child of mine after MIL but I'm not quite as heartless/cruel to name only after my mother.

so I was trying to find a way to incorporate my maiden name. its a short name as is our surname so we cant just use the surname as it sounds odd. so if, for example, my maiden name was Sand, I thought about using the name Sandrine - it incorporates my maiden name and my French heritage.

is this too much of a strangled link or a good idea?

(please don't suggest 'just pick a name you like' - for us middle names need to have meaning and I would feel bad for DC4 if all other siblings had family names and they didn't!)

It depends entirely on the name!

Can you share it?

Sandrine is lovely - you know its family connection and the reason you chose it, which is all that matters.

no I cant share it but the format is exactly as the Sand - Sandrine example. my maiden name would make up the first part of an existing French name. I have French heritage as well so the name would be a 'two birds with one stone' idea.

Rose to Rosalie would be another similar example.

Oh ok, so maiden name + extra bit adds up to an accepted "Christian" name.. I was being thick and didn't get that.

Sounds like a great idea Smile

I think it sounds like a neat solution to your dilemma. Go for it! Smile
