Skye - if Scottish, okay I guess, if not scottish, see below.

Skye and Luna say to me that the poor children's parents were either total hippies, or so keen to be different that they forgot the poor kids actually have to live with the name afterwards.

It's like called a child "Box" or "Solar".

Cherryblossomsinspring · 27/05/2015 11:20

A bit dippy. But you get used to almost any name once its on a child.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/05/2015 15:57

Skye. Chavvy.
Luna. I think it's very out there but pretty. I just can't get past Luna 'tic' though, sorry

crje · 27/05/2015 16:02

Pet names

germinabunt · 29/05/2015 14:12

I so like the sound of the names to say but, sorry, to me the negative connotations are:

'attention-seeking selfish middle class hippy Mum who believes vaccines cause autism'

Well, you did ask...

zingally · 29/05/2015 14:19

Both a bit cutesy/hippy. Fine as children, weird as adults.
"Hello, I'm Skye/Luna, I'll be your mortgage advisor today!"

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 29/05/2015 14:24

Neighbours and Harry Potter

unluckycat · 30/05/2015 07:31

I'd consider both pretty normal names now tbh, I don't think they will get in the way of a good job or anything. I think Luna has a nice sound to it and the moon has positive connotations for me.

babymouse · 30/05/2015 07:36

Hippy, but not in a bad way.

But please - don't give matchy matchy names to twins or siblings -- and that is coming from a twin!

SoldierBear · 30/05/2015 07:39

Skye - Isle of, Skye terrier. Strange name for a child unless you would call it's siblings Earthe, Watere and Fire (e). Nothing feminine about it either, other than then "e" at the end. Definitely hippy.
Luna is just horrible. "Loo-na" or Lunatic. Neither are pleasant connotations. Makes me think the parents are Harry Potter fans.

AuntieStella · 30/05/2015 07:41

Skye - some sort of link to the Hebrides

Luna - Harry Potter, parents easily swayed by publicity.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/05/2015 07:44

Luna - Spanish and also it's a WAG name to me
Skye - neighbours and a bit hippyish

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 30/05/2015 07:45

All the female dogs I know are called Poppy!
Skye- ok, a bit meh.
Luna- I want to like it, but too Harry Potter, wannabe different to me. Plus lunatic.

Stinkersmum · 30/05/2015 07:48

Skye - just no. Chavtastic, try hard and a dogs name to boot.

Luna - I like it. But only if you're Spanish.

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2015 07:53

The sort of names people use when they say "we want something unique"

There were more Skyes and Lunas than Marys born in 2013!

drinkscabinet · 30/05/2015 08:01

Skye = perfectly normal Scottish name. Sky = parents a bit hippyish.

Luna = perfectly normal Spanish name or parents a bit hippyish.

Both pretty names and being a bit hippyish is fine unless you expect me to keep a straight face while you talk about recharging amber teething necklaces by moonlight.

My DGD's Grin

musicalendorphins2 · 30/05/2015 08:30

I like the name Skye, but Luna was my cats name, named after Sailor Moon's cat, by my so when he was little. Luna is not a name I am familiar with, other than pets, and snack cake lune moon. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.canadianfavourites.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=vachon005&404;www.canadianfavourites.com:80/Vachon_Lune_Moon_306g_p/vachon005.htm=" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.canadianfavourites.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=vachon005&404;www.canadianfavourites.com:80/Vachon_Lune_Moon_306g_p/vachon005.htm=

musicalendorphins2 · 30/05/2015 08:32

*Named by my ds, not so

OurGlass · 30/05/2015 08:51

Skye - chav
Luna - trying too hard

reuset · 30/05/2015 10:11

Not hippy in the least. They're too popular and mainstream to be hippy. Luna less popular probably, at the moment, but I can see that name being popular with the Skye and Summer crowd. When mentioned on here they get the lowbrow comments.

Panzee · 30/05/2015 10:13

Nice pushchair.

Agree strongly with these Grin In a lot of cases people don't seem to be aware of how popular some names are at the current time. Though probably needless to say, there will of course be more Marys overall, it being consistently, and comparatively, popular over the decades.

reuset · 30/05/2015 10:16

Nice pushchair?

MamaLazarou · 30/05/2015 11:43

I instantly associate Luna with Lunatic, I'm afraid.

Skye is lovely.
