Boys name inspiration

We are having a boy, our first DC. I appear to like almost no names. Or, I like them when other people use them, but won't use them myself. I've lots of rules that I made up too.

Some names we both like but can't use:

William
Samuel
Alexander
George
Duncan
Harris
Joseph
Rory

Names that are on one or other of our lists so far:
Cory
Murray
Magnus
Zachary
Jack
Joshua
Ethan
Innes

Can't begin with an L (alliteration looks wrong with surname) and would prefer at least 2 syllables. Even of the ones I like, I can't actually imagine my son being called any of them. I don't want something too unusual. We're Scottish, but doesn't have to be a particularly Scottish name. I'm over 30 weeks now and am no further on than when I was at 15 weeks except now I can't use the girls names I liked!

Help......

Coming back to this to try to clear thoughts a bit more. Current list based on your suggestions and further discussion.

Cory
Murray see comment below re surname
Magnus DH now fully vetoed. Still my favourite!
Zachary
Jack
Joshua Maybe but Dh thinks too biblical?
Ethan someone we know just used
Innes DH now vetoed
Nairn
Murdo
Andrew nn Drew probably.
Douglas. Quite like but it's our neighbours name!
Daniel I go back and forth on whether I like this one. Might be a bit vanilla
Joseph short form Joe is too similar to a close family member to be realistic

The problem, we've now realised, with a lot of the Scottish names is that one of our surnames is an area in Scotland. So if we used any of the other names like Harris (which we can't use in any case) it would sort of be like Harris Lewis.

I think I need to gather some less Scottish names for comparison. Am now 34 weeks and STILL no further on. At this rate I really am going to have to go with Boy.

Love love love Magnus not helpful, Douglas and Murdo.

You would have to veto Nairn as a place name.
Really not keen on Cory. The other names you've picked are all (to me) very strong.

Munro
Angus (kind of place name too)
Tavish
Cailean
Ruairidh

Non-Scottish ones:
Matthew
Michael
Peter
Christopher
Patrick

Andrew would be my choice from your list.

Hmm yes not sure how Nairn snuck on that list Cloggal. Of the non-Scottish names, 3 of them are very close relatives' names! Not so keen on the P ones.

I kind of like Hector but don't think DH does. He suggested Hamish the other day and I'm not sure - swing between love and hate.

Similarly Andrew. Sometimes I think it's good, other times not sure. But even when I think it's good, it's just fine.

Magnus now almost certainly off the list as a lovely wonderful couple just used it. Although they live abroad so wouldn't really be an issue, but somehow feel that they should get to keep it for themselves :)

I like Hamish. Seamus/Seumas maybe too?
Such a pity about Magnus, I do love it.

Alasdair? I like wanker's suggestion of Roderick too, Roddy is lovely.
