Help! Picked my name but a friend may use it first!

I have chosen Violet for DD2. I had my heart set on it, we don't know any Violets and it goes nicely with our surname. I picked it even before I was pregnant! Unfortunately I have found out that someone I know quite well is considering Violet for her newborn DD. I am gutted! I have searched through hundreds of names but can't find anything I like as much. Any suggestions please? I don't want something popular and I don't generally like masculine names or names ending in ella or illy. Thank you!

Get busy- even if it doubles in popularity, that's still only one in every 250 baby girls!

prepperpig If you think my way of pronouncing Viola (similar to Violet) is like the word 'vile', then it follows that you think Violet also sounds like vile. But hey, I'm not a lover of flower names anyway so I wouldn't be choosing either of them.

My advice: if you love the name, use it!

We were in a very similar situation with DS1. We had a short list of names, but the only thing holding me back from going with our favourite was that one of my old school buddies had recently given her new son the same name. Similar to you, we are in touch but live a fair distance apart and tend to meet up a couple of times a year.

I agonised over it for ages. Then, I went into premature labour and got wheeled off at high speed for an emergency cs. As I was coming round from the GA in recovery, DH handed me my new baby. Suddenly, none of the guff about using the same name as our friend mattered.

Our little son deserved our favourite name, and that's what he's got!

(fwiw, our friends were delighted with our choice, they reckon we've got good taste Grin )

MamehaSan Thanks, I can totally see how once I have been in labour and see my baby all these worries will probably seem fairly trivial! :)

Use the name you love, you won't regret choosing a name you love but you probably will regret not using it if that makes sense? like someone else said, friendships don't always last forever you your daughter will be your daughter forever :)
