Rafe ??

BitOfFun · 20/05/2015 20:00

Ah, they're lovely names- your DH is an ass.

Wishful80smontage · 20/05/2015 20:04

fun he doesn't like anything 'frilly' I failed to see how Gregory is anywhere near 'frilly' but I can't force him to like them if he doesn't :(

They all sound posh/old fashioned to me not chavvy OP! I like Charles best (probably biased as I knew a lovely boy called Charles!).

greenishfingers · 20/05/2015 20:12

What's wrong with the 1980s? Rory and Dominic are good names I reckon with a certain roguish charm to them. "Big bad Dom!"

getbusyliving · 20/05/2015 20:40

I love the name Charles, it's such a classic name but relatively underused compared to say Henry/Edward. If you never shorten the name others will follow your lead.

Arthur is nice but very popular at the moment and Albert I don't like

Rafe is really naff, Ralph is cool though

Rory and Dominic have a completely different feel to the other names on your list and I find both incredibly dull

There is obv nothing wrong with any of these name just different tastesGrin

Allthatnonsense · 20/05/2015 20:45

Love Charles and Arthur.

mika2 · 20/05/2015 21:43

Charles - too formal/stuffy
Arthur/Albert - no, still sound like old men to me although clearly both having a big comeback these days
Rafe/Ralph - really like this, sounds quite cool and unusual (haven't come across one yet)
Dominic - really dislike (always reminds me of domestos?!)
Rory - a bit yawn and I knew a few of them growing up so sounds very 80's

mika2 · 20/05/2015 21:46

If you like Rafe you might like Piers or Reece

Yoruba · 20/05/2015 21:54

Not keen on charles - I think it sounds a bit plummy and reminds me of the prince. Maybe a bit formal?
I love Albert - I know an albert known as Albie which I think its just adorable! Bertie also very cute.
Arthur - I really wanted to use this but DH vetoed. Love it. Lovely solid name, traditional, nice feel.
rafe - Im not 100% how to pronounce this? Is it with an Ah or an Ay? Possibly I'm just being dense - havent heard it before! I like it though, sounds quite trendy to me.
rory - love this.
dominic - dont mind, not a favourite. Think it would get shortened to Dom which i HATE. I like dominic itself though...

Nnnnnnnnfff I adore Lawrence and prefer it to anything on your list.

ch1134 · 20/05/2015 22:17

Brutal honesty... what fun!

Charles - nice
Arthur and Albert - dislike as I'm not into 'old man' names.
Rory - cool but hard to say.
Rafe - poncey
Dominic - ok

But you've done alright. I don't love any boys names except Fabien, and that doesn't go with my surname.

MirandaGoshawk · 20/05/2015 22:24

Rory is my favourite. I really don't like Dominic but I don't know why, I realise that it's a perfectly acceptable name, as are all the others, although not sure about Rafe. Isn't it Ralph?.

If you hate Charlie I wouldn't use charles, unless you insist he is called Charles, Chas Chuck or whatever, but I bet he will still get called Charlie.

Sophronia · 20/05/2015 22:34

I like Albert, Arthur and Dominic. Charles is ok. I'm not keen on Rory or Rafe.

AmysTiara · 20/05/2015 22:39

Rory and Dominic are the nicest imo.

Charles is awful sorry.

MargotLovedTom · 20/05/2015 23:40

I love Lawrence and wanted that for a son. Didn't have one though. I also liked Linus and Milo but DH just laughed. What about Patrick? Or Edward? I think Eddie is a fabulous nn.

Middleoftheroad · 20/05/2015 23:52

Rafe is just Ralph. There used to be a programme called 'Dear John' where the amysing faux posh woman insisted on calling Ralph, Raphe. Sorry, too pretentious.....

Middleoftheroad · 20/05/2015 23:54

Smart phone typos....

LeoandBoosmum · 21/05/2015 00:00

I hate Arthur (would probably be the last name I'd choose) and can't understand why it's popular.
I don't mind Rafe but am not fond of any of the others.
Names I like include: Nathan, William, Joseph, Michael, Leo.

Egged · 21/05/2015 00:01

Theoriginal, I have to ask, how on earth does your DP mispronounce Charles?
