Pregnant with dd. The only names dh and I can really agree on are Wren or Willow. I think these are beautiful names but based on genetics she is unlikely to be wrenlike or willowy (think more brick shit house). Should I stear clear or am I over thinking it?

How funny - four years ago when thinking of names for my daughter I asked on here what people thought of Wren and got almost universally positive responses - seems the tide has turned since then!

She would probably be called that had someone on that thread not asked if she was likely to be wren-like - she wasn't and isn't, so it's just as well, and it's a good job that line of thinking also put me off Grace!

How about Erin if you like Wren? Similar sound without the connotation.

Willow is beautiful doesn't matter about size she will be beautiful to you. X

I think Willow is a beautiful name!

I like both names and I wouldn't think twice about giving them to a stocky girl. Willow conjures up images of grace and beauty, sunlight on leaves, light sparkling on a gentle stream. Wren I think is very cute. Slim or not slim, tall or not tall is irrelevant in my view.

I'm not really sure when Wren became a name...? I've only ever heard it on here, never come across one in real life and to be honest I hope not to. It's not nice as a name. Not crazy about Willow either but it's better than Wren. I can't imagine a grown women being called Willow regardless of her stature so honestly I wouldn't use either if I were you.

Birth index lists 233 people with the name Wren up to 2005

BUT

Some of these are listed twice, ie under both parents' surnames, so it's less than 233

In many cases it's a middle name, so probably a family surname

AND

Quite a lot of them are boys (and not just the middle name ones)

I think Wren is a great name, not so keen on Willow which is a bit fashion-y in my opinion.

I know both a Wren and a Willow - both lovely. I find both names hard to say in some way - awkward or something. For that reason I am not fond of them. Also Wren just doesn't seem like a name to me.

would you think of Renee (can't do the accent)? It has the same-ish sound as Wren but a more traditional look. personally I would not have used that name with our surname and heritage but I think it is an incredibly attractive/serious/intelligent/ name for a girl/woman.

I suppose it depends on your last name - you'd probably need a longish last name to go with Wren (never heard it used as a name) I'm thinking of the "playground test" when Wren starts school - think she could be called Birdy or something similar. Willow is ok but it's getting very popular - I know at least 3 all born within the last 12 months. Oh and our cat (aged 12) is called Willow!!
