Prefer Marshall-Jones, it's easier to say. But not sure that's the best reason for you to choose it!!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/05/2015 10:42

I like Owens-Jones it sounds very Welsh (I like Welsh names)

WinterBabyof89 · 15/05/2015 10:44

Marshall-Jones flow a little better IMO

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/05/2015 10:44

Marshall-Jones, much nicer sounding.

Reiltin · 15/05/2015 10:45

The O of Owens makes nicknames easy - I should know cos I have an O in my initials! Is one or other name more important to you? Will one parent take harder than the other if you drop their name? These are questions I would ask. The other thing is look at is a mash-up: Marens, Owall, something in between. Or even bring Jones into it - play with the various letters to create one family name that you can all share Smile

katster06 · 15/05/2015 10:49

their dads name is jones, i have the two surnames and i prefer owens on its own but not sure about double barelling it … marshall-jones is longer when filling out forms etc … maybe i should just let them be jones but i wanted to have my name in their ideally!

There's a tradition in some cultures to have mother's name as a middle name and as both Owen and Marshall are first names too that could work?

squoosh · 15/05/2015 11:38

I think they both sound absolutely fine so pick Owens-Jones if that's the one you prefer. Don't resign yours to middle name status!

SoupDragon · 15/05/2015 11:41

Marshall-Jones flows better. I think it's the S of Owens that makes Owens-Jones sound a little awkward.

Koalafications · 15/05/2015 11:44

Marshall-Jones has a much better flow.

Owens-Jones doesn't flow right at all, sorry.

Justusemyname · 15/05/2015 11:45

Owens Jones doesn't sound so great given they both end in s. Owen-Jones would be a bit better though I agree with pp that M-J is better.

verencethefool · 15/05/2015 11:51

I thought Owens-Jones until I said it out loud: I think M-J sounds better.

I wouldn't worry about it being too long: quite a few of our friends have double-barrelled and we plan to and they're all two two-syllable names! I think it will be more common and forms of the future will just have to leave more space Grin

TheUnwillingNarcheska · 15/05/2015 11:52

Marshall-Jones, it does flow better than Owens-Jones. It is the two Ss that make it jar.

Unless you drop the S from Owens so they become Owen-Jones.

My friend's parents were originally called O'Riley but had so many problems employment wise they dropped the O. I am going back to the 1950's.

Koalafications · 15/05/2015 12:02

We plan to double barrell and have two middle names for our DC. Poor child will run out of boxes (or ink!)

OutragedFromLeeds · 15/05/2015 12:06

Marshall-Jones sounds better. Owens-Jones has too many 's', just about ok with Luke, but Thomas Owens-Jones is like a tongue-twister!

MadameJosephine · 15/05/2015 12:12

I prefer Marshall-Jones too. I think it works better with the boys' names too

Thomas Marshall-Jones
Luke Marshall-Jones

Will there be any plans in the future for you and their dad to change your surnames to the 'family' name? If so then remember it needs to work with your names too

Sophronia · 15/05/2015 12:22

Marshall-Jones

Rhubarbgarden · 15/05/2015 12:35

I prefer Owens Jones. It's got more character.

fanjodisfunction · 15/05/2015 14:44

I like both.

I grew up with a double barrelled name and know lots of lids with them due to parents, so surnames from both.

went to school with a guy whose last name was Ousley-Moynen so owens-jones is no mouthful compared to that.
