I prefer your husband's choices.

ewarwoowoo · 15/05/2015 09:24

I have a fleur and I like Hugo. sorry Wink

soph252 · 15/05/2015 09:28

We are not married yet, but thank you for your post. I'd be interested to hear reasons though to try and sway my opinion rather than just personal preference - I'm not completely against his names just love mine more obvs Grin

Anais is lovely but will be pronounced Anus at school unless you are in France. Just saying.

All the others are lovely.

BanKimoon · 15/05/2015 09:32

Albie and Anais sounds like a twee childrenswear shop in Chiswick.

DextersMistress · 15/05/2015 09:34

I like both boys names and neither girls names. Sorry, not much help!

soph252 · 15/05/2015 09:35

I'm sorry but thank you, both of you have made me laugh- it would be one or the other though, as far as I know it's not twins. Anus would be unfortunate ShockGrin I have the problem that my mum hates Hugo and I can't get past thinking of it as a posh name and we are just regular people really.

Albie? Is that a name? Not liking that, it sounds...eggy (albumen)

Anais pronunciation will be mangled.

soph252 · 15/05/2015 09:37

Thanks Dextersmrs - all helpful though honestly. I'm interested to hear all views or other suggestions - I like cute, slightly different but not too out there names.

I'm not keen on Hugo, and agree that the pronunciation of Anais will get mangled. Compromise with Albie and Fleur maybe? Smile

Mintyy · 15/05/2015 09:42

Much prefer his choices.

DextersMistress · 15/05/2015 09:43

I'm working on it soph Grin

averythinline · 15/05/2015 09:44

Ditto BanKimoon on Albie and Anais - lots of Albies round here, Anais less so but think it might morph into a version of Anna ..either that or momb pronounciation

Not keen on Hugo or Fleur either though...

however if you really like them use them...one thing we didn't think of before was the shouting across the park test..... If you are happy to stand in the middle of a park and shout it out then go for it..

dh and I had very different views so we wrote a list tore them up and and picked from a hat! that made the shortlist- oddly enough girls was easier then we had a ds! boy ended up with 2 possibles- both my nominations but dh picked the 1 after he was born...

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 15/05/2015 09:45

Hugo is nice. A bit posh perhaps, but basically solid. I don't think it would sound out of place in many areas. Don't like albie at all. Very twee and trendy about five years ago.

Anais is gorgeous, but I agree with the others it's likely to cause pronunciation issues.

Donthate · 15/05/2015 09:48

I'm northern and fleur sounds terrible in my accent. Like I'm saying floor in a broad Lancashire accent. I like Albie but would it be short for Albert. Love Hugo. Not keen on Anais.

What about Sylvie for a girl, still French but easier to pronounce.

Grantaire · 15/05/2015 09:48

It's probably easier to find another set of names you both agree on instead of trying to convince each other to choose the other's person's favourite.

When we had ds in particular, DH and I disagreed completely and had different choices. We started again and picked a different name entirely.

soph252 · 15/05/2015 09:50

Ok so think I've just said goodbye to 'albie' Grin bit sad because I thought it was super cute and had never heard of it before, but I did actually just imagine the shouting across the park thing & the same for Hugo really - back to the drawing board on boys names then!

The thing is we both liked all of these names just preferred our own 2 if you see what I mean. Other boys names we both like are seb and Noah but they are just too popular- just would like something a bit different.

I like Hugo and Anais

MagentaVitus · 15/05/2015 10:13

How about Hugh? Like Hugo, but less of a posh toff vibe.

PrimroseEverdeen · 15/05/2015 10:29

How about Alba for a girl. It means white or dawn in Spanish and Italian. It is also Gaelic for Scotland. A beautiful name IMO.

CindyEcstacy · 15/05/2015 10:37

We've got a Hugo nn Hugs and a adore Fleur

timelyreminder · 15/05/2015 10:41

I like Hugo and Anais

sweetpeame · 15/05/2015 10:45

I like the boys names, both strong and good for a boy or man. Hugo was on my list for DS but I think we've decided against it (just because we've narrowed our list down to two names we prefer more). I was also slightly concerned that Hugo would sound very posh in Ireland where I'm from but I think it sounds fine in England (never lived in Scotland or Wales so not sure about there). I like Hugo more than Albie but it's also a good name.

Not convinced on either of your girls names, I think they're both difficult potentially to pronounce.
